Forgot to mention.

Ive got some good lemon drop seeds from my plants last year. I got around 90% germination from the ones i sprouted. If you still have enough time in your season i have extra i can spare.

Thanks for the offer but I think I'm good. In fact I have a few extra Hab seedlings I'm trying to give away.

"Coco coir," had to Google that. Transitioning to hydroponic? I've been playing with a couple of shredded bark/compost mixes. I am also trying to re-use some Wally World potting soil (Earthgro - a mistake) from last season by mixing it with other things. One nursery guy was singing the praise of a particular compost that he claims is one of the best, but it's got biosolids (another thing I had to Google), not too sure about that.

Coco coir once well rinsed is a excellent replacement for peat moss because it is renewable and ph is more neutral. Peat moss is not renewable and acidic. Its only drawback is it needs to be buffered with some calcium which is an easy fix. http://www.calyxking.com/blog/the-impor ... coco-coir/

The CNS17 Grow 3-1-2 is a hydro nutrient but used as in "drain to waste" feed charts its fine for pots or soil also. One quart makes around 64 gallons of fertilizer when mixed to slightly over 3-1-2 and a quart is around $11-13. I also use Alaska fish and kelp for veggies and tomato. Its 4-6-6 and 7% calcium. I wanted to use Jobes organic water soluble veggie and tomato but nobody had it locally. It has some of the stuff ProMix brags about in there potting mixes but Jobes calls it Biozome. The Jobes also has a really healthy shot of calcium. Around 8% iirc.

For mulch/bark look for pine bark fines. Jolly Gardener and Timberline sell them but they are labeled "Soil Conditioner". IMO its killer in potting mix. The JG version is just pine bark fines. The Timberline has a little bit of other stuff added.

Wow, yours are moving along.

Mine finally started to take off, except for the serranos, they are a mystery.

Some jalapenos and banana peppers showing, not habs yet.

Had some Early salted jalapenos today on burgers. A little bit of a mild smoked hab sauce from Belize too. Ive got peppers on all of mine except the MOA Yellow, poblano and Thia Giant Orange. The 7 Pot, Aji Cito and Mucho Nacho have been especially good producers.

It hurts sooooooo good. The Aji Cito is crazy sweet but hotter than a lemon drop. Not as citrusy though.

Im not dumb enough to eat the 7 Pot yet. Maybe after some wine. :D

EDIT: i did taste the 7 Pot. Its brutal but very sweet too.

15 7 Pot Yellows (deseeded because i needed the seeds) biggrin.gif
20 Aji Citos
1 Yellow bell
6 yellow/white baby carrots...about the size of your pinky finger
2 small apricots
Half a medium white or yellow onion
3-4 garlic cloves
1 TSP salt
2.5 TBS lime juice
1/2 TBS candied ginger
4 Whole fancy cloves
4 Whole Allspice berries
1/4 TSP Turmeric
Mix of dry white wine vinegar and brown rice vinegar. Cut 50/50 with water. Add just enough to cover the "mash"
Bring to a boil and simmer for 45min.
Total pepper and veggie weight is 500 grams

Adjust with lime juice and salt after blending and resting in the fridge for a couple days.

Ouch on the hot sauce.

My guys are coming along, still only ripe ones are my hot bananas and jalapenos, but have fruit on most the others. None on the Ghost Peppers, but the plant is very healthy.

I picked these today. Scotch Bonnet and Beni Higlands from chileplants.com.

Im not thrilled with the shape of the SBs though. Both the CCN SBs and 7 Pots don't look correct. I will grow them from other seeds next year from a better source. The entire reason i got them from CCN was they were supposed to me MOA plants and i wanted to sell seeds this fall....Now im kinda screwed.

What/who is CCN? When you say they don't look correct, you think it is a cross-pollination thing?

Chileplants.com is Cross Country Nurseries. They sell a huge variety of plants and seeds. My best guess is they are both a cross. I havent tasted the Scotch Bonnet yet but the 7 Pot was really hot. Much hotter than last years orange habs but also much sweeter. All of my other plants appear to be correct.

CCN has a excellent reputation though. That is another reason im am very disappointed. I ordered those plants very early in the year. I also kept them separated to help prevent any crossing so my seeds would grow true next year. Now, a lot of effort and time has been wasted on 3 plants that don't appear to be correct.

Their 7 Pot Yellow is supposed to look like this and mine look MUCH different.

Their Scotch Bonnet MOA Yellow is supposed to look like this which is pretty close but different than other MOAs ive seen.

Beautiful color i love orange/yellow hot sauce. Its KILLER mixed with tartar sauce 1 part hot sauce to 2-3 parts tartar or mayo. I use it for dipping chicken tenders or fried fish.

I picked a few more today.

Im saving these 2 Bonnet MOAs for next years seed stock.

Sauce from my Bonnets will have minimal editions because the flavor is so good. Much more fruity than a orange hab.

I carefully remove them with a knife and tap them out onto a paper towel. Let them air dry wrapped in the paper towel for at least a week in the dark. Then i put then in air tight bottles.

Peppers i want for seeds i leave on the plant ripe longer and im selective about size, shape and when they ripened. Last years lemon drop seeds i left on over a week and selected the largest pods. I got pretty much 100% germination from those seeds.

Thanks. I thought it might be something like that. I was thinking of trying it with some Jalapenos. I got a couple of Mucho Nacho plants pretty late (More of an experiment for me on my balcony since I never tried to raise them before) but I have some nice looking peppers coming on. Looks like there will be several too. Yum Yum!

Awesome color and shape on those, especially the bonnet! I'm holding some pods on the vine extra long as well for seeds. Finally have a few ghost peppers! Hopefully they make it to full ripe.
