Since this LabRadar was used with Hornady and their new VLD ballistic tip (so I was told). I made up a few of my own tips to see if they make any difference.

Since I wasn't having any success with BH209, I was able to pick up the Swiss loads and a few shots with each - MV were within a few fps of each other.
All these were 70gr Swiss 3F.

NO TIP - 0.300" diameter flat nose
MV 1268
100yds - 1114
200 - 1037

Ballistic tip made from Delrin.
MV - 1263
100- 1112
200 - 1027

Although slightly worse with the tip, the amount of difference is insignificant with respect to everything including BC (at least at these velocities)- IMO.

Well it sure looks cool with the tip on it. :D

Funny you should try this. Ive been tinkering with the idea of tips on the 330gr Gould HP. Just as an experiment.

I have the Gould mold so this experiment has peaked my interest.

Perhaps you would not see a significant difference in velocity until bullets were pushed much higher than the speed of sound. Of course there is a limit how hard a soft lead bore sized bullet can be pushed, but maybe a bullet like the Gould inserted into a sabot would be a different story.

Where did you acquire the tips you are using ?

I made them to fit my 1/8" HP - which the mold has now been enlarged as that small of a HP performs like a solid.
I also think the Gould HP is larger than 1/8".
