Long story short, the wife came back from a garage sale and told me that it was just full of "man stuff". Lots of hunting and fishing stuff. Well I grabbed my wallet and was about half way to my truck, when she said that she'd take me.

The lady that was having the sale had lost her husband two years ago and finally decided to have the sale. She did have a ton of stuff and I picked up a few things. She wasn't busy and we started talking and the subject of muzzleloaders came up. Well she had two (2) T/C muzzleloaders that were for sale, she just didn't have them out. I asked her what she wanted for them and she told me $175 for both. After looking them over and talking with her, she told me that they hadn't been used in 16 years. I was a little concerned with the inside of the barrels but, the outside steel and wood were both great. I asked her if she'd take $150 and without batting an eye, she said, "yes".

He had one .50 and one .54. I brought them home, disassembled them and spent about 5 hours on them. The .50 is 100% perfect. The .54 has just a little pitting inside the barrel at the breech. It was quite obvious that he used the .54 much more. Anyway, for $150 it was a great day.

Did you turn yourself in at the local jail? Nice deal there. Not often you can pick up that much rifle for that kind of money. You have a real find there.

If I wasn't so "plump" , the outdoor clothing, coats and bibs, etc. that she had was just unbelievable and most of it new. It was quite obvious that he must have been one heck of an outdoorsman. Lots of fishing items, gloves of every kind imaginable and even a night scope.

I'm keeping the .50 but selling the .54. The .54 didn't have a rear sight for some reason. Holes and threads are perfect but, it was missing and she didn't have a clue where it could have been but, for that price I'll find one someplace and then sell the rifle.

Shot the .50 four times today on my range. First shot from a clean bore, is the hole to the right. Range.......... 100yds

90grs V of 2f......... .490 Speer round ball and a pre-lubed patch.

I went through a phase where I had to have some traditional sidelocks..Kinda came and went pretty quick lol.. It did leave me with a few guns that dont get used much. they became the first guns that I ever sold..Kept a few ,45 cal, and a few in .32, But Im over it now. I like my inlines way more, AND I gotta say, I like the guys on this forum a lot more too :) too many of those purists over at their camp all seem to have a chip on their shoulder. theres a few smaller forums where the guys seem a lot friendlier, but the traffic and banter is a lot slower too. Guys over here are just a lot more relaxed. :D

Don't get me wrong, nothing will get me to give up my Pro Hunter but, I bought my first side hammer back in "73" and been shoot'n the muzz ever since. I just wanted to go back in time again (maybe I'm having an old age crisis). Behind my house any shot I could have, other than on my range, would be less then 70 yds and I might be fun during the regular rifle season. When our muzz season starts, the crops are down and I can hunt across the road, then I NEED the Pro Hunter. Having fun with it anyway.... :)

Now that we know you have nothing invested in the .54, and the barrel is trash.

How much do you want for it? :D :D

I wouldn't say the barrel is trashed at all but, you can feel a it slightly with a patch. I have two (2) screws ordered for the rear sight which should show up at Fastenal tomorrow. Once the rear sight goes on she'll be complete................. $150.00 PLUS shipping if necessary.

Very nice shooting! The 1-48 twist is a very unappreciated twist by many. I have always found them to be good shooters. But because its a T/C Hawkens.. you can now interchange Green Mountain Drop in Barrels and make the rifle do some amazing stuff.

quote]Encore50A, do you still have it for sale? please send me a PM.[/quote]

Sold it right off to oldfox. I think he's got it shined up by now. Waiting for a photo of it, after he refinishes it.

I guess oldfox is happy with the .54

Now..... the purchase of a new rifle, is dictating that I sell a few others. So the .50 is up for sale. FIRM on $200 + shipping.

Better get on this one, she's a shooter.
