Mike shot the Hotrod well!! Good Video my friend!! That rifle is in my Avatar here, that gun set a fire in me to build one like it, i ended up building 3 of them! My 45 and 54 are Blued GM LRH barrels, and my 50 is Stainless like your 45 Cal. I don't think you can beat these GM fast twist barrels in a Hawken or Renegade stock if your preference is sidelocks and bullets. I bought a brand new (my only new Muzzleloader) Lyman Great Plains Hunter 1:32 Fast twist in .54 Cal, after some modifications it has started to Grow on me, The Lyman shoots very well! But it stil takes a backseat to my Hawken and Renegades with GM LRH barrels. The Lyman feels more Finesse to say? Where my Hawken and Renegades feel stouter, more robust

Nice shooting! Your buddy mentions "man I gotta get one" or something to that effect. Let him know that there is one for sale on another lead boolit site.
45 lrh mounted in a renegade stock. I have nothing to do with the rifle, just saw it for sale the other day.

could you give more information on rifle, load , bullet, sights, ect. - also something on those shooting sticks - great shooting

pretty awesome. I'll hafta go back & check out some of the other vids later.

I really like getting together with Mike. He was a stay at home Dad for quite a while and he needs days like this to just "talk shop" He is a great guy.

This rifle is a Hawken with a 15/16 barrel. The barrel is a Green Mountain LRH Stainless fast twist 1-30. It has Lyman 57 SML peep sights with a Lyman 17 AML globe sight. I have a spacer that I made installed under the rear sight to get more distance.
The load is 80 Gr of Pyrodex P with a wool over powder wad. The bullet is a RCBS 11mm rifle bullet hardened at about 8 to 8.5 BHN. I wrap them with two wraps of 9# onion skin and size them to .446
The Shooting sticks are some that I made my self. I have made three sets not two for me and one for my son. I can't remember what the wood was in my long set but the short set is Oak. I put sling swivels on the top so the gun rests on leather not wood on wood. I know that it makes for a better rest because the wood on wood is just not good. The short set I made is for my Air Rifle. That air rifle is extremely hold sensitive and these sticks work great for that rifle. For the feet I used a archery insert and drilled the dowel and inserted the insert and epoxied it in. I can use rubber feet of I can use steel target tips which ever I want. I have a short video at the bottom.

Thank you. I wished we lived closer,, but if we did our wives would miss us a lot  .
Wouldn't it be fun to be able to get together and shoot these at REAL long range on a regular basis? I know what we do. We hold our version of the "Quigley" shoot like the BPCR boys do. Ringing steel out to 1000 yards on animal targets. 8)

That day will stick with me. I don't remember who's idea it was for me to shoot the beer can at 90 yards but I was glad I was able to hit it. That old fella John listened a little better after that.

No doubt about that my friend!! I am really contemplating getting the Lee Shavers long range soule tang peep, and a Shavers Globe with level for my Hotrod .45 Hawken, I have all the confidence in the world i can shoot this rifle to a 1000 yards with peep sights, 500 yards is the END of the line with my Williams FP Hawken. I am having a hard time justifying spending that kind of money on a sight setup when its tough to find much over 500 yards around here, there are definitely places tho, i just need to cinch my boot laces up and buy the sight setup! I will find the yardage then! LOL

Here is my 500 yard mark i scribed in my Williams, i am totally out of the threads here, the Gib lock is all that is holding the elevator at this point, if it weren't for my Gib Lock I couldn't do this.

Ron, Those shooting sticks you make are REALLY nice!! I like the leather strap idea, I'll try making myself a set of these, i have a few spare sets of sling swivels, and plenty of arrow inserts, field tips, and the rubber blunts. Be a fun project!

Great idea on the shooting sticks!! I might have to make a set for myself.

This is my 45 LRH Hotrod using the Cougar version of the Hawken stock.

Ok SHOW OFF!! LOL! This is EXACTLY the gun i wanted to build, but MAN O MAN they want a fortune for those Hawken Cougars! I finally gave up on the idea. I am glad to see you built one of these! This is definitely My Dream 'Hotrod' Sidelock

Actually I was able buy the stock just the way you see it for a very fair price then about a week later picked up the barrel. Seem like a good fit to put a stainless barrel on a stock that had stainless hardware. The one thing this gun is missing is a stainless wedge pin, so I'm using a steel one until I find one for a reasonable price.

You can always cut a new wedge pin out of a 1/2" hex head bolt. Just need a vise, hacksaw and files. I just made one for my new rifle I'm putting together for paper patching. I'd post some pix if I could figure out how.
