I have a 45 Cal. Senaca and a 45 Cal. Hopkins & Allen. The 45 Cal. Senaca will shoot a 440 ball with patching. The 45 Cal. Hopkins & Allen shoots a 445 Cal. ball with 15 patching. It is impossible to shoot the Senaca with 445 Cal. & patching. It does not work! My question is, is there a difference in Hopkins & Allen's 45 barrel that requires a Hopkins & Allen 445 ball? :prayer:

It sounds like the TC Seneca has a tighter bore, so needs a smaller diameter ball or thinner patch. Muzzleloading bore sizes are relative terms as diameters and rifling patterns vary from maker to maker.

on the other side of the coin, though marked "45" a lot of Hopkins & allen barrels were actually 44cal & require a .433 ball. :huh?:

Could they have made them any more confusing? I guess so

They did this to bolster their after-market sales of hardwood ram rods.
