Heard on the radio that Arby's is going to TEST venison on their menu in November.
Whether my store gets to test or not, I'll support them just because..

Rumor has it our Arby's is getting them. Hope there good. I do get a kick out of there new we have the meat commercials aimed at hunters.

Im not so sure I fully support this. The venison isn't aimed at sportsmen (we usually have our supply) It must be aimed at the general non hunting public. the main draw for them would probably just be the curiosity. Since it is illegal to sell wild game, this comes back around to the "farm raised" so probably culls and or elderly from high fence hunting stables. (growth hormone and genetic alteration O'plenty) or scent collection farms. (usually kept indoor and held under strict daylight timetables to force estrous cycles) Either way, not the same "venison" us sportsmen are used to.
I see it selling reasonably well for the first month maybe, to satisfy the curiosity, "I want to try" crowd but after that, I see sales dropping off to nothing. Put any typical fast food Mcburger next to your usual patty thrown on the grill, and in a roll with the fixins you like, and you will reach for the home cooked every time. I pass many of those fast food joints every day, I stop in on the average of once every 3 years or so. Personally, I'll pass on the growth hormone, genetically altered, shot full of who knows what "venison" coming from some fast food chains dying attempt at resurrection.

I used to have a neighbor that raised emu (like ostrich) on his farm. he was trying to market it to grocery chains, as the 'next' white meat. It never really took off either

Why is it every time I purchased a sandwich from Arby's, the sandwich never seemed to have as much meat as show on their commercials? I even asked the counter girl that. She just smiled and walked off like I was some simple child that was amusing.

Venison is getting notice because of the properties venison has compared to beef. I read there is less cholesterol and something about the protein structure was better for you then beef. But yes it will be farm raised. And that alone brings problems. That is where they suspect most of the CWD developed that devastated the Wisconsin deer herds.

Ha, I see that in every food chain..

Not sure either where this will go.. From personal experience, a lot of people are turned off my Venison - bambi; and they never even tired it, not even in Chili or spaghetti, etc..
Story: My wife and mother help my kids make WILD CHILI at our church youth fundraiser for years, they won the chili contest quite a few years.. After a few years people would stated asking what made it so good. Then we all let the secret out - Venison. Some of the looks were priceless..
Just interesting to see a major company take the step forward..

I have to wonder how this turned out for Arbys!! I doubt this would fly in VA either unless the state gets a cut of the profits other than just taxes.

The 2 Arby's that I know that had it in MI sold out in less than a half a hour. I don't remember hearing any reviews for the venison sandwich.

never saw or heard anything about the local Arby's ever havin' venison on the menu. I woulda give it a shot if they had.

true dat, their regular 'sammiches' never look in person like they do on the TV. but their 'premium' sandwiches usually come pretty close.

my biggest problem with Arby's is they'll come out with a great sandwich but it's always "for a limited time only" and by the time I get around to goin' it's no longer available.

but that "smoke mountain" they have now is AWESOME! and I hope to go there while that brown sugar applewood smoked bacon BLT is still on the menu.

The venison is probably NZ in origin. They have vast herds of deer and they compete with the sheep for feed and space. Arbys does not say if the "venison" is whatever species. Could be most any deer from Sitka to Roe to Whitetail to Sāmbhar et al.... My opinion others may differ... W

Missed it!
Took the photo a few days prior to Oct. 21st. Went by last week and they told me it was 1 day only - each store recived 100 servings - they sold out and it was well received, Guess I'll have to wait until next fall.
