Hello all. This February we're heading to Florida for some vacation time. I plan to do some wild boar hunting but I would appreciate any help in this department. I have searched extensively on the net for guides and outfitters and it can be daunting to wade through them all. I Any suggestions for a good guide in Florida?

www.outwestfarms.com. They are in okeechobee. Ride around in a buggy to flush them out. Success in 20 min to a couple hours. It's not over a feeder. Most are over a feeder. Just the way it is.

Also did one with www.westshoreoutfitters.com

They ARE over feeders but you can ask for spot and stalk I think.

Point is, unless you go on private property (like some guy's land) most of the "outfitted" hunts are in fenced private property (though it could be hundreds of acres) and most are baited.

Thanks for the links. Dad and I will be down to hunt. I would like to do some spot and stalk hunts while Dad would sit in a blind of sorts. We were in Florida and hunted from a swamp buggy a few years ago. He didn't care for that style of hunting. We got two boars apiece but it isn't Dad's cup of tea. I thought it was fun to see the guide's dog do some work keeping the boar at bay and enabling me to take a shot but to each his own.

If you're going in the next couple of months, look into public land WMAs.

A non resident 10 day hunting license is like $46. WMAS access fee (good for all WMAs) is another $25 I think. Wild boar is no limit/no fee. Only thing extra is $5 permit for deer (yes $5!) and $5 fee for whatever weapon you're going to use: ML, Rifle, archery etc.

In other words, if you're down there, you're hunting 10 days for well under $100. It's the best bargain in non resident hunting anywhere! I live in MN and try to do hog hunts whenever I'm there for work or visiting friends.

Look at Florida Fish and Wildlife website for WMAs. There's a bunch but seasons/dates/weapons vary with each.

Good luck.

If all goes as planned I should be able to spend a good three weeks in the Sunshine State. I don't want to curse myself and have that change but so far the boss is AOK with my time off.

How successful have you been on the WMA's. Ages ago I hunted Florida on a private ranch with a guide. Sadly he is no longer in business but I recall hearing that success rates on WMA's are very low.

Actually my buddy and I were only able to spend one day last year near Christmas. We went to Rich Loan WMA. No hog but PLENTY of sign. Most areas looked like entire fields were roto-tilled. We did hear squeals and definitely spooked one but no shot.

Success seems pretty high, according to some internet florida hunting forum searches.

I appreciate the information. There are a lot of people doing this. I would like to do some spot and stalk hunting. Here in my home area most of the hunting is from a treestand or sitting on the ground in a likely area. In some ways you can get a bit burnt out on that method of hunting. Don't get me wrong you can still hunt but often you end up pushing game into someone else.

I did check into the fish and game website. A lot of the WMA's are closed for hog hunting when I will be down in February. They seem to coincide with the deer seasons.
