Any info or opinions regarding this auto would be highly appreciated. I am thinking of buying one in the near future.

Thanks,
Ray

All my 1911's have been Colts. A person I knew did have a Remington 1911 and I shot it once at the range. It was very functional, did not jam, and was every bit as accurate it seemed as my Colt 1911A1. We were comparing his pistol to my Colt. Now one thing I was told in a discussion a few years back with a gunsmith. The new model pistols such as the Remington and Colts are built by no means as rugged as the older models. It seems they sent them down a production line and often times the fit, finish and function are a little off plumb as they say. I guess that happens when you farm out parts and production and such. And I think that is happening with many of the new handguns, no matter who makes them.

You of course peeked my interest in the Remington so I started reading on it. Sounds like a nice firearm. And Gander Mountain wants to sell me one big time. (With their closing stores might be a place to find a deal) At $669.00 its calling my name. But thank goodness I have no use for one anymore. Probably why I sold my others. Here is one of the reviews I found on the Remington.

Conclusion in the words of gun review author Dan Zimmerman
The Remington R1 suffers from quite a few fit and finish issues, but at the end of the day it outshoots me. Even on a good day. In more than 3,000 rounds now I haven’t had one single malfunction. Ball ammo or hollow points. Blazer, PMC, Remington, Winchester, Hornady. It’s eaten them all and always come back hungry. Which is really all I ask for in a sub $1000 1911.

Specifications: Remington R1 1911

Caliber: .45 ACP
Barrel Length: 5”
Overall Length: 8.5” (stock)
Weight: 38.5 oz.
Finish: Remington’s “new” black oxide
Capacity: 8+1
MSRP: $774

:applause:

Thanks Dave. You have been most helpful.

Ray............. :yeah:

Ray i know you asked about the Rem but take a look at the Ruger SR1911. I went through this decision also and decided on the Ruger. No regrets what so ever.

:yeah:
Thanks for the replies but I found one for $643.00. It had dove tail sights with white dots. Walnut grips with diamond checkering and 2 mags. Matt finish. Nothing special.
Thanks gents,
Ray

I know I’m late, but I purchased the Ruger SR1911 and just love it! It is very accurate more accurate then I’ll ever be and it is solid.

I have a colt 1911 Made in 1917 it just had it's birthday 100 years old, paid a 1000.00 bucks for it about 15 years ago, love the feel of that gun, have not shot it in a while. Some people have told me not to shoot it. I say i wouldn't own a gun i couldn't shoot.like me the pistols old but works pretty good. I've got two sons don't know which one i will leave it to,Wish i could take it down to hell with me to confrount the devil when i'm gone.LOL

Late here too. I have one 1911, nothing special, ended up with it by accident. It's my only Taurus, though has been fine.

I know the 1911 has the history but it's mostly a 'range gun' for me. I can get a lot lighter, more capacity and a trigger system more to my liking for carry. My preferred 45 acp is an H&K HK-45c with a 'lite' LEM trigger, 10 +1 capacity with a full sized HK-45 magazine.

Of course not every handgun needs to be a CC piece, even with woods carry I like light.
