Looks like a good one.

If only it was a right handed rifle.

The rifle is a standard "G" series set up, with the safety on the right side.

It is right handed! Like said above, the secondary safety is what you see on the left side.

Re: Whites for sale

I didn't realize that White rifles were set up that way. I'm going to give this some serious thought.

Re: Whites for sale

Gents, after research I'm going to pass on this one. A .410 bore muzzleloader sounds like a superb option for whitetail, but apparently most hunters did not agree, so this seems to be a real rarity.

With no options for current production sabots and concerns about finding current production lead conicals I'm afraid this rifle would be better suited to filling a spot in someone's collection rather than being a "working" rifle.

Re: Whites for sale

Conicals for it are easy to come by from no excuses and ill let you know next week how they perform on game my .410 s91 is going to be my primary weapon for my mule deer hunt this weekend.

I'm certain a .410 conical will knock them down without any issue. :D

I was reading your .410 S91 thread when I saw Steve's response about .45 cal minimum bore for Virginia muzzleloader. So a .410 bore would be a no go for me regardless.

I personally think its a stupid rule!! I actually did own a .410 Whitetail at one time and questioned DGIF on this. They wouldn't budge...but funny it is legal to use a .38 caliber bullet with a sabot, but shot out of a .45 caliber gun, doesn't make much sense!

Re: Whites for sale

I believe a lot of these States base there caliber restrictions based on people using round balls, not really accounting for the use of bore sized bullets in fast twist barrels. I certainly wouldn't try whitetail hunting with say a 32 caliber RB but in his book Doc White shows fine example of 300 lb Sika deer he shot with a .330 diameter 240 grain slug using only 60 grains of powder.

Michigan dropped its caliber restrictions about 5 years ago. About 10 years ago I built a 40 caliber barrel with a 1-16" twist to fit my Renegade that I have no doubt would be plenty of gun for deer or elk. In fact during the heyday of buffalo hunting many were using the 40 Sharpes rifle.

Re: Whites for sale

I think it should really be a bullet weight restriction rather than a caliber restriction. That would be much more useful in my mind

I think it's dumb as well. I don't believe there's a whitetail deer that ever set foot in Virginia that could shrug off a 300 to 400 gr .40 caliber lead conical. But it would be technically legal to use a lightweight .38 slug from a .45 muzzleloader. It makes no sense.

At least here in VA we aren't cursed with too many dumb regulations.

Re: Whites for sale

Agree, I once spoke to a game warden here in PA and they felt the same way about shooting a 300gr plus conical in a 40 cal. But he said it would take a miracle for the game commission to change the laws unless they got enough request from sportsman. Unfortunately not to many of us want to shoot a 40 cal with that size bullet.

I remember the last hunt I went on with Doc at a game preserve in Michigan. The owner had a 410 Super 91 that Doc gave him and he said he would never part with it as it dropped Whitetails and Russian Boars just as fast as if they were shot with a 30-06.

Re: Whites for sale

Post here 1st is last price reduction. Have that Gonic and it will be $200 plus shipping. It's a .499 and anybody who was around when they were mfg knows they were just about a White but a smaller caliber, .499 instead of overbore. It's a great shooter. #11 ignition and slamfire like a White. If it isn't moved out by 1st October I'm going to cut the stock down and it'll be my grandsons 1st ML. It's just too good a ML to stay in the corner. It's much better than all but the very top end of ML made today. If anybody is interested in a Gonic just do a search here on MM. Reason for sale is need to move it out to make room and get some $ for another SML build. If you want it for a kid it be great for that too, superior gun at a great starter gun price. Plus have some bullets to fit included. There will be no more price reductions. Hope all well and be safe. PM here and I'll send pictures if interested. W

Oh man that Whitetail would love a home in my safe!
