What about a 50?

I’m partial to hunting with squirrel rifles. (private joke amongst us DWB’s)

I’ve thought about it but I cast my own for the 45’s and they have served me well all these years. If I hunted out west for Elk that required a 50 cal it would be a no brainer.

Thanks though.

Ed

I would love to have any caliber in a White, but think .45 or less best. .357? .410? Would love it, preferably with super safari stock. Love the Mannliker look!

Ed, with that "buy now" price I figgered I better snap it up b4 it was gone. I talked to the seller this morning and it should be on the way later today. Now I'm anxious to see it in person.
I had a NIB .451 Super that I sold last spring and then wished I hadn't. The serial # on that one was only 5 digits below this one. Looks like this one comes with some spare breech plugs, a spring, a trigger and that Lyman Peep sight should be good too.

The big brown truck paid me a visit today. When I buy something from gunbroker or online from strangers I am always a bit apprehensive. This time things worked out well.
After unboxing the rifle I noticed the target knob on the lyman peep sight was bent during shipping. I stopped right there and carefully straightened the knob out. Works fine..no problem. I noticed that the peep has an adjustable armature on it. I had always thought about getting one of them so this was a plus! I then took the action out. This gun originally had the spring detent that held the action in place, doc later used a thumbscrew. This one had been converted to the thumbscrew, another plus as far as I'm concerned. The breech plug came out with finger pressure. I was surprised to see that it had a ventliner installed in it, not many of us use them in the white breech plugs. It was not quite the same as Ron's conversion but the same principle and I have no doubt it will work fine. I pointed the barrel to a window and looked down the bore.....it shined like a new dime! I then patched the bore and the patch came out nice and clean, just a little dark from the oil. Made me smile! It all looks good, just a few handling marks on the stock and a few rub spots on the barrel which I would expect from a hunting rifle.
The extras were good too. One 209 breech plug with the hammer for it looks like they were never used, one extra hammer, one extra spring, one extra trigger, a #11 breech plug and a musket cap breech plug, two extra screws for the stock, an extra action retention screw and 100 saboted 350 grain projectiles. I think that's about it. It makes me wonder who owned it before it got into the dealer's hands. He obviously cared about the gun and took great care of it.
The skwirls better look out now ED!

You don't know how many times I've been kicking myself this last week... But, I'm glad you saved me from myself!! Sure is a great deal, just one question: what is that red ring around the breech plug in the first pic?

Well two questions: If you ever want to sell one of those thumb screws let me know. 8)

I was wondering the same thing about the red thing. I'm not sure what hurts more, kicking myself for not getting or my wife kicking me if I did get it !!

You know I'm not sure just what that stuff was around the breech plug. It felt kind of greasy but you could peel it off. At the same time it didn't really seem like teflon tape either. Greasy but didn't leave a residue. I'd like to know just what it was.
I never mentioned to the warden that I bought it but I don't think she'll kick me.
