Hey all,

Been doing some research and getting ready to jump into the smokeless muzzleloading world.

Looking at sending an action to Precision Rifle.
Anybody have any dealings and would you again?
What could I expect accuracy wise?

This are sabot guns.
What is the advantage/disadvantage to shooting sabots?

Thanks in advance for input,

R.D.

PR uses Green Mountain barrels which are not terrible but Hankins converts Rem700s with Krieger barrels. He also uses a unique LRMP primer module and plug design. PR uses cut down .473 case head rifle brass.

The Hankins rifle will likely shoot sabots but he normally recommends sabotless and heavy amounts of 4198. He offers adjustable resizing dies to get the perfect fit.

The biggest advantage with sabotless is, you will never blow a sabot and barrel heat has far less effect on accuracy. High BC 40cals for sabots are pretty scarce but .45s are more common. Such as the Parker Match Hunters.

:D

rdfirenut,

WELCOME ABOARD :!: :!: :!: Glad you joined the group :applause:

Ray........... :yeah:

Sabots fail when the barrel heat or load gets too high. Accuracy suffers to the point of bullets tumbling.

BTW, are you planning on getting a 50cal or 45cal barrel?

If its a 50cal, i wouldn't be concerned with shooting sabotless. You loose a great deal of the advantage since you have to shoot low BC 50cal bullet.

If its a 45cal, then its a whole new ball game. A 45cal ML can shoot nearly any 45cal bullet a 50cal ML can shoot in a sabot BUT you wont need a sabot. A 45cal can still shoot a 45x40 sabot and bullets in the 200gr range mostly. PR does offer some heavier lead 40cal bullets.
