I have a home brew rifle that is .50 caliber and since I have several rifles in this caliber I would like to have it bored out to 0.55" to use 28 gauge shotgun wads. Is there anyone on this board that has a lathe and 0.55" bit to do this boring? Right now the barrel is octagonal and 42" long but I would also like it cut down to 30" or less because it is very front heavy. I do not mind that it will be a cylinder choke as I usually shoot in heavy brush at very short ranges and do not particularly like heavy chokes as it tears up the meat. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Try Bob Hoyt. He has done a couple of barrels for me and does great work. You have to call him, no web site. He can at times be hard to get hold of.
