as a centerfire shooter im used to the loop to hold a cleaning patch , it seems like muzzle loaders seem to prefer a jag. Why is that? also what diameter is you 45 cal jag?
its cold , im bored :drinkers:

A .45 jag is slightly under true .45 caliber. The jag does a better job of making a patch engage the rifling, hence a cleaner clean. Black powder and substitutes can be really dirty and fouling and to get that stuff completely out of the rifling the patches have to bite pretty good.

What MrTom said...Only time I use a loop end is for the final bore swab with protective oil for storage and even then its a fairly tight patch.
