I've been wanting a Lever 45-70 for a while now and Iowa made straight-wall cartridges legal this year.

There was a $100 rebate for this model so it came home with me. I topped it with a Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 scope with Warne extra high steel rings

This is a fun gun to shoot and the recoil is really not that bad, my SML muzzleloaders kick harder when loaded for hunting.

My second group at 100yds,the first 3 shot group was just a hair larger, 325gr Hornady LEVERevolution

Fun!!! I can't count how many times I've thought I've needed one of those. Someday one will come home with me. You going to handload for it?

Nice shooting.

Ohio finally allowed straight walled cartridges about 2 years ago, But were actually specifying "Which" cartridge you could use. I heard they are changing the rules to just state Straight Walled cartridge this year, we'll see. From what I heard the Marlin 45-70 is a pretty popular seller now. An old friend of mine (RIP) had a guide gun in 45-70 and put a red dot on it. I did not care much for the red dot but he liked it and it shot very well for him.

Yes, I've been researching the equipment. I always pick up brass at the range and I actually found some 45-70 brass :D
