Ok, mom bought dad a Savage 111 in .30-06 for X-Mas. He doesn't know yet and we have a week to go. I'm not sure what the best weight bullet would be for it. What does everyone else use?

180's for deer/elk/moose/bear. 150's for Deer/Antelope. Those seem to be the most common weights. I personally split the difference and hunt with either 168 grain Barnes ttsx or 165 grain federal fusion out of my Savage 116. My bear I killed 2 years ago didn't even twitch after I put a 168 grain Barnes through his shoulders. 30-06 is a Very cool Christmas present, he will be ready for any hunt.

Thank you, I picked him a box of Winchester Extreme Point in 150 gr. Looks like some type of a ballistic tip and a Box of Remington Core-Lokt PSP in 165 gr. it will get him shooting any way and then he can move on to more expensive stuff.
