Any advice on where to buy bullets only? Seems most of the more popular brands come with the bullet/sabot combos? I bought a 50 pack of the black Harvester crush rib sabots thinking I would easily find "other" bullets to put in them. It's proving a little difficult.

On another note, is it safe to assume that I need .451 or .452 bullets with the .50 cal sabots?

Thanks for any help,

Strutter

check out the hornady xtp's, they come in bulk of 50 - 100 bullets, i forget the exact count.

Gander, Thank you sir! This is a dumb question but are the XTP HP .452 bullets for hand guns? The price is right for a 100 ct of them as long as they will go out the end of my gun at a good rate of speed and accuracy?

I assume those will fir in a .50 cal sabot?

Guess I'm a little confused... again. I thought a .50 cal sabot was just that? Am I to understand that I need a different sabot if I go with a .451 or .452 bullet?

Will the Honady XTP HP in .451 - .452 work in the Harvester .50 cal BCRS?

Your Gun is a .50 caliber so you need a .50 caliber sabot which you have. A .45 caliber bullet goes in the sabot. You can get .451 or .452 diameter bullets. Hornady XTP's, Speer Deep Curls etc., or buy a bulk pack of 50 bullets from Harvester, Scorpion PT's. The Harvester sabots are an excellent choice.

Grafs.com is an excellent source for bullets and sabots with only $4.95 shipping. Here is just a few to get you in the right direction.

Gander / Mr Myers, thanks. That clears it up a bit. This was getting a little overwhelming. As for loading, I will be using BH 209 powder in measured 90-110 gr charges. Let me get this part right too.... simply pour the loose powder down the barrel and lightly pack the sabot/bullet on top of the powder? Has anyone had a problem with the powder sticking to the sides of the barrel and is this a major concern?

Thanks again for the great info.

Seat the sabot/bullet combo firmly on the powder charge. When you feel that the sabot/bullet touches the BH209 lean on the ramrod and seat it tight. This may take a few times but you will eventually figure it out. What kind of muzzleloader are you using?

Never had a problem with the loose powder sticking to the barrel. If it did, I think that the sabot would push it down anyway. I have had BH209 stick to the inside of my small plastic powder holders for field use but wiping the outside and inside of them with a dryer sheet takes care of that.

Another practice is to mark the ram rod at muzzle level when loading. This way you will be sure you seated the projectile all the way from then on. You can use tape, or just scribe a line.

I shoot .452 XTP Mag bullets in a Harvester sabot. I load 100 grains of Blackhorn 209 in my Triumph and get superb acuuracy and performance. I shot five deer with this combination out to 110 yards and couldn't be happier.
