so i have killed numerous hogs from 25# up to 275#. with either a recurve or centerfire rifle...but now im headed to a preserve lodge to take a crack at a russian boar with my sidelock! should i stick with my tried and true patched ball or go for something bigger? i have some 410gr. great plains bullets but they are EXTREMELY hard to load. my shot wont be over 30-40 yrds at best.

Don't do a frontal assault with the hog shield but slip that ball behind that shield into the vitals and that ball will kill any hog.

Many years ago a bunch of flintlock shooters went hog hunting, shooting roundball. None of them had any problem taking a hog with a 50 caliber roundball.

A local friend hunts hogs with his .50 and patched round ball. He has never lost a hog. Avoid shooting big hogs in the shoulder and alls well.

thats what i wanted to hear:) i just love the way the patched ball shoots.
