Here is a pic of me & my CO bull taken with my copy of an 1863 Remington Zouave rifle-musket. I bugled him in & shot him at less than 40 yards with a 500 grain minie.

Very very cool!!! How many grains of powder was behind that 500 grain conical bullet? How far did it run after being hit? Congratulations on a GREAT ELK and a wonderful adventure.

The rifle in a past life was used as a NSSA match rifle & is very accurate but the sights are regulated for 65 grains of 2F with the 500 gr minie. That's what I used. I felt it was light but knew the area well & knew the shot would be close (archery range) & decided that precise shot placement would carry the day, & it did. I don't think he ran 40 or 50 yards.

Great job :!: :!: :!:
Call me the next time you fire up the BBQ :!: :!: I'll drop by for one of the succulent steaks  Good shooting and a nice bull. :applause:
