Long story short, the wife came back from a garage sale and told me that it was just full of "man stuff". Lots of hunting and fishing stuff. Well I grabbed my wallet and was about half way to my truck, when she said that she'd take me.
The lady that was having the sale had lost her husband two years ago and finally decided to have the sale. She did have a ton of stuff and I picked up a few things. She wasn't busy and we started talking and the subject of muzzleloaders came up. Well she had two (2) T/C muzzleloaders that were for sale, she just didn't have them out. I asked her what she wanted for them and she told me $175 for both. After looking them over and talking with her, she told me that they hadn't been used in 16 years. I was a little concerned with the inside of the barrels but, the outside steel and wood were both great. I asked her if she'd take $150 and without batting an eye, she said, "yes".
He had one .50 and one .54. I brought them home, disassembled them and spent about 5 hours on them. The .50 is 100% perfect. The .54 has just a little pitting inside the barrel at the breech. It was quite obvious that he used the .54 much more. Anyway, for $150 it was a great day.
