Just 2 weeks away the "stripers" should be on the Susquehanna flats of the upper Chesapeake Bay to spawn. It is of course catch and return but its a 50 fish day if you catch the tide right.

4" and 5" Sassy shads on medium bass tackle..what a blast.

Cool info Choc Dog. So I am guessing that these are smaller schoolies that spent the winter up river, not the big boys that live/spend it out in the ocean. Is that correct?
Also what would you say the avg sizeof the stripers in the fishery you are referring too?
One last question, what is the minimum size required to keep one?
Thanks Rman

Stripers

Rifleman,

No they are not the smaller winter fish but the migratory spawners that just happen to spawn there. The spawners migrate up all of the rivers that drain into the Chasapeake Bay to spawn including the Potomac that borders D.C.

The spawners longest swin is to the Susquehanna flats which is the most nothern part of the Chesapeake Bay. Fish average 30" to 40 " with some
50" + fish mixed it. All fish must to returned to the water.

Stripers are showing up

First rock fish (stripers) showed up on the Susquehanna flats yesterday
(Sunday).

Sounds like a really cool day catching 50 fish a day up to 50 inches.
