this old TC Renagade is from the early 80's.
with 1-48 twist it will shoot patched round balls very well.
it is a proven deer hunter and i have in the past taken deer,
with it out to 80 yards. this deer took 2 shots.i had a off hand shot took out bottom of chest
deer walked off 30 or so yards and layed down i took steady aim from a tree rest and took a solid neck shot bellow and just under the ear. she was in the tall grass as this all i could see, that shot worked like a charm.
I have for the most part... retired my side lock and use
an in-line for deer hunting. but i had a pacemaker installed this year.
so i need less recoil. i was thinking of pulling this old girl back out.

Thompson/Center Arms' suggested loads from a paper
publication of theirs, printed in October of 1980.

Renegade & Hawken, 50 caliber
Round ball loads (.490", 175 grains):
50 grains FFg - 1357 FPS - 761 ft.lbs
60 grains FFg - 1434 FPS - 850 ft.lbs
70 grains FFg - 1643 FPS - 1115 ft.lbs
80 grains FFg - 1838 FPS - 1396 ft.lbs
90 grains FFg - 1950 FPS - 1571 ft.lbs
100 grains FFg - 2052 FPS - 1739 ft.lbs
110 grains FFg - 2135 FPS - 1883 ft.lbs

Maxi-Ball loads (370 grains):
80 grains FFg - 1271 FPS - 1328 ft.lbs
90 grains FFg - 1344 FPS - 1484 ft.lbs
100 grains FFg - 1418 FPS - 1652 ft.lbs

i was thinking this old girl would kick me less being so heavy and PRB "vs" my inline guns.
only thing is last few years around here in OHIO loose powder is like GOLD and very hard to find anymore.

At least it being a percussion cap model you can shoot Pyrodex RS and Triple Seven out of it. And your right.. 70 grains and a patched ball has basically no kick in a Renegade, yet, out to 75 yards lethal. So I would look for some Pyrodex RS and good magnum caps. Then relax.. no use tested that new machine you got. And take a nice close shot at a deer. Stick that behind the front shoulder and you should be fine. And good luck to you. I have three of them rifles and love them.

Are you not able to order powder from a supplier? Some will ship as little as 5#, but you'll still have to pay the HAZMAT. If you have like minded shooters around, you might split a case of BP, or make a road trip to Log Cabin Shop in Lodi.

I that a left-handed gun? :huh?:

yes it is, way back in the early 80's i did snail mail and a custom order form.
had to order it from TC as a left handed shooter it was a option they offered
in the hunter version 50 cal with black furniture and new stock shape
on the Renegade version.
i did have to pay extra i think it was $30.00 more to tool up the work
at TC and the gun shipped in time for my first winter deer season
weapon misfired 3 times and the deer walked off after 3 caps popped off
i will never forget that cold snowy day afield with my new ML
oh how i have learned some tricks since that day.
