Iv taken deer with 243, 257 Roberts, 257 weatherby, 270 win, 270 weatherby, 7mm wsm, 300 savage, 300 weatherby, 308, 30-30, and 45-70. Iv used the 257 weatherby the most though I think iv shot 3 with it.

My go to non ML rifle is my Savage 30-06. Stainless, fluted barrel, and a nice walnut stock. It's for the hunts when I don't want to mess with a ML and just go sit in the stand. And it's really hard to go wrong with a 30-06. May not be the latest greatest wiz bang super magnum but it just flat out works and always will.

I just bought a Marlin 1895SBL in 45-70

Iowa is allowing straight-walled cartridge rifles this year, it should be an fun carry gun. It will wear a scope when the rings come in.

It depends where im hunting, field edges I use rem. 700 long range hunter in 30-06, dense river bottoms I use ruger 77-44 in .44 mag. I usually head shoot with the mag. Bang, flop. Yeah!

A Savage 170B and a Marlin 336. Both are chambered in 35 Remington.
I read all your old threads about the Sav 170 B, interesting stuff. I'd love to see some pictures if you get the time to post them.

don't have one at this time but, my all-time favorite deer gun/cartridge is the old No.4 mk1 British Enfield .303

at present my go-to is a Marlin 336 in 35Rem caliber.

Tikka 300 WSM with a Leopold VX3i 4.5x10x40 CDS turret, Bell and Carlson stock, 180grn Accubonds hand loaded, Elk ,BlkTail, Whitetail, Mulies and Blk Bear have all succumbed to this sweet shooting rifle. Most recently added Tikka 6.5x55 swede. Working on final load. This rifle will be making a journey to eastern Montana in November to hopefully get some blood on it. This too is a sweet shooter. I'm a Finn so maybe its just gotta be :D

I own 3 that work great from mice to moose, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7MM-08, and most recently a .308 Win. I have been a DIE HARD Magnum fan since i was 15 years old, particularly the 7MM Rem Mag, I finally seen the light and have went back to the small, fun to shoot Calibers. When you Handload like I have done all my life, and run Chronograph numbers it is mind boggling how close these little fellas are to the Super Duper Magnums! Unless you are shooting a 28-30" bbl, the Magnums are FIRE BREATHERS, Throat eroders, for a couple hundred feet a second on a good day with a tail wind. The Short Action calibers in a heavy barrel are EXTREMELY fun/pleasant to shoot, and will outlast a Magnums barrel life 10 fold

If/When i ever grab a CF again for hunting it will be a 6.5x55 Swede. The good old Swede will do anything the modern non magnum 6.5s will do. My only complaint is its not a true short action caliber. Its just slightly too long for most of them.

For several years I used a Browning Stainless stalker (First year made) in .270 win. Was a great caliber for Deer. Don't have it anymore but if I were to go out with a Non Ml right now for Deer, it would be my custom made Rem model 7 in .250 Ackley Improved.

Ahhh, rifles for deer. Here in eastern Virginia legal CF rifle areas are pretty slim. Mostly I use 12 ga 870 Special Field, 22" barrel straight stock and short magazine, with BuckKicker light full and Federal Premium OOO and a Dead Ringer sight. Easy killing machine out to 65 yds. Whenever I'm in a rifle area I have Encore with .308 win barrel and weaver on top. Truth be told I much prefer my SML, Hankins built with 45 brux, even if CF legal. W

PS: I've probably killed more deer with 22WMR than anybody that reads this unless you are a U.S. Dept of Ag wildlife control agent.

I'm shooting a Browning A-bolt II Stainless Stalker with BOSS in 7mm Rem Mag. I try to keep my shots on deer broadside for heart/lung shots or I loose a lot of meat. Currently shooting Federal Premiim 160 grn Nosler Partitions, accurate and deadly.

I have been using a Remington 700 .30-06 since 1984. I have used other rifles, but seem to kill most of my game with that old Model 700. Recently,I bought a 1981 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .270. It is a great shooter. I'll probably be using it this year (at least part of the time).

I live in a area in Michigan that up until About 5 years ago was either a shotgun or muzzleloader zone but now has been opened up to straight wall pistol cartridges. My son and I have been using 357 Magnum in a Marlin lever action and a Ruger 77/357.
