This morning went up, and captured Ed' hollow point. Distance to the trap was 25 yard. Powder charge was 50 grain Blackhorn. Speed at 25 yard clocked the other day was 1155 fps. The bullet weighed 346.5 grain. After capture the bullet weighs 343.8 grain

The bullet went through carpet, plywood, destroyed the first two jugs; went into the third jug where it was caught.

That bullet looks like it works great to me! Nice bullet Ed!

Well at least I know what the bullet from Ed looked like that went thru that big doe I shot last year :) Only it was with 75 gr. of Goex 3f

I know my grandsons love this bullet. Even with a load of 50gr of 777-3F the deer they shot were DRT. But with that load we limit their shots to 50 yards.

My 50cal bullet with the 0.15" HP on the left that Ron tested has nearly identical velocity 1150fps as yours - and result. Bullet on the right didn't expand at 980fps, but did when the HP was enlarged to 0.21".

I've learned a few more things:
For deer, with the amount of expansion of these 45/350 at 1150fps/1000ft-lbs I believe they'll still perform/mushroom at a little lower velocity (say - 1000fps), lower ft-lbs (around 800ft-lbs)
Also, how the weight of the 50/475 HP maintains the 1000ft-lbs of energy an additional 100 yds. compared to these 45/350 HP.
Can't overlook how these pure soft lead bullets stays together/retain their weight - creating a very LARGE hole.

Great test - thanks.

Agree and they penetrate deep as well.

Energy of 1,037 foot-pounds for a 350 grain bullet at 1155 fps.

Pretty nice considering the milder recoil and nearly 100% weight retention. I still think this is one of the best bullets for a "standard twist" 45cal using lighter loads.

Yes it is. In Doc White's book he mentioned this bullet. In talking to him, he thought it was a fantastic bullet and would be great bullet to use for deer.

In fact, I just came back from the range with my one 12 yard old grandson and just finished sighting in his White .451 M97 with a load of 55gr of 777-3F at 75 yards. He shot great with it. His shots were about 1" high but dead on as far as windage. I asked him to take a shot at 100yds and he was a half inch off to the left and high from dead center.

I decided to sight in my 451 White M98 with it and use it instead of my beloved 465gr conical for this up and coming deer season. Using 75gr of 777-3F I was getting great groups at 100 yards.

I've shot hundreds of these Gould bullets(457122) and the 457193 out of a 45 caliber Omega. About 15 years ago I picked up a copy of Doc's book and realized he had been doing the same a couple of decades before I even thought about it.

Doc like Tony Knight Knew ML's. We all owe them a great deal of thanks as without them ML's probably would not have advanced to what they are today.

Got back another 100 years and you'll find the British did all this with BP and Pb.

Your right about that, I first got interested in shooting slugs by reading about Whitworth with his hexagon bore.

Wow....that is really impressive results....shows that you don't need a maxed out load to have excellent performance.

Now my only question is where do I get some....I'd love to give em a try in my Knight.

Would the forty-fives perform well in a Sabot in a 50 caliber muzzleloader?

That sure looks like a mushroom of the deadly variety. Was the 50 grains weighed or volume?

These bullets will perform just fine in a sabot. You can even use them without sizing them in a MMP orange sabot or a Harvester crushed rib.
