Received the Black Diamond I bought off the fire today, ask gentleman if gun had ny rust/pitting in barrel etc and he said no bore is bright and shiny(BORE PICS DONT SHOW HOW REALLY BAD IT WAS).. He even ask if I wanted him to take breech plug out and show a picture of it to me and like a dumb a@# I said no I will trust you on it due to the fact he had been on the Fire for awhile with a lot of posts etc plus he seemed honest and up front.
I neglected to even ask him for close up pics of gun again my fault for trusting him, you would think after all the guns Ive bought and sold plus as much as we talk about it Id be smarter but this is hat happens when you let your guard down.
These are pictures of end of bore, breech area, plug and 1st 2 patches out of bore, I spent over a hr steel wooling, swabbing out and finally got it to wear its shiny but still ruff and has tiny surface pits. Bad thing is bore will always have to be watched now since its been let rust like that as it will want to rust again easily, you can feel the roughness of bore now.. Will have to get some Montana Bore polisher or JB paste and spend another couple hrs messing with it.. Right now rifling is crisp and visible so gun should shoot fine but is not a no rust bright shiny bore as stated by seller.
While this guy was totally dishonest in representing condition getting screwed is on me for not following my own recommendations when buying muzzle loaders..

You said, he asked if you wanted him to take the BP out and take a picture!! You said, "I trust you"...Hate you got "bent over"..Tough lesson learned.

As I said I knew better after a thousand or so deals on the net its not like I was getting my cherry popped, so it was on me for not following my own rules..

Ed the gentleman just p.med me and offered to refund my money plus pay for my time cleaning gun(good on him) and I declined because Ive got barrel to where it should be a shooter.. He also offered to refund part of my money(40.00) to make it right or told me to pick amount I thought was fair, told him Id leave it up to him to choose what he thought was fair..
Gun does have nice looking wood other then a scratch up by where ram rod goes in gun so that's a plus and blueing is in good shape other then a very light rust on surface that wiped right off.
Was just really pissed off due to my own not practicing what I preach when buying muzzleloaders.

Dean, can’t send it back and get your money back?

We at one time or another have been screwed that's what happens to trusting people like us. I have dealt with you and you are a stand up guy. I have been lucky with buying guns but not so lucky when send money or lending money I lost $180.00 to a scammer. I let my guard down and lent $400.00 to a guy I had dealt with several times I never heard from him again. At least the guy you dealt with has some decency by his offer, but what I don't understand him telling you it was VG when I am sure he knew it but like so many who put their muzzle loaders away uncleaned Well good luck with what ever happens Lou

Lou that was the other thing that really made me mad was the fact he said bore was bright/shiny and had zero rust, like you said he had to know how it was but just figured he would try to get it past, he said maybe we had a difference of opinion on what a shooter was vs. a collector. When you state the bore is bright/shiny that leaves little doubt as to how you a representing the gun.
I have been lucky and that's only the 2nd time I've ever been deceived intentionally by a seller, the 1st time was when I bought a custom recurve from a guy who said bow was perfect, well it looked like it had been drug behind a car for a short distance.. when ask about it he started calling me names and being very belligerent so for the next 10 yrs every time I seen him trying to sell something I would post what a douche bag he was and make sure buyer knew what he was getting into.
I still keep his name in my Rolodex so I wont forget him in case I see him selling again, ruined quiet a few of his sales over the years:)

Gentleman just refunded 40.00 of my purchase price so it helps ease my lack of judgment and good on him. We parted as friends which is a good thing.

Glad to hear he's at least offering to do good by you1

Sometimes what one person thinks is perfect is horrible to the next guy. From the looks of the breach area I can not see how anyone could say that gun is pristine or has a Bright and shinny bore .

At least the guy did all he could to make things right. You can not ask for much more than that at this point.

Happened to me twice, one time when I got the gun the dam thing was loaded, it was shot then reloaded and left for dead, it did clean up some.that is the gamble we take, purchased a super disc barrel that was supposed to be a little rusty, his idea of rust was not like mine, oh well live and learn , hope it shoots straight

Sorry to here about the rifle. That is sad how some will do that to another person. I bought an MK 85 once from a guy that bought it to get the scope and sold the rifle to re-coup some of his cost. When I received it, it had a strange substance in the bore. I pushed a patch down the bore and this thick black stuff came out but was not dirt. I am sure that the bore had been coated with black paint and the Oil in the rifle was dissolving the paint! I contacted the seller and sent pictures. He asked me to scrub the crap out of it to see just how bad it was. It was fairly pitted and probably would shoot but I really just did not want it. Seller sent me all my money back and I sent it back to him, with out any issue. Forgot his name but he turned out to be a real stand up guy, so I got lucky.

On a side note after you give it a good polishing with the Montana or JB, you might consider a coat of DynaTek Bore Coat to seal the bore up. Not hard to use. I had an issue with my KRB7 getting a type of crud ring with BH (Yes I know it is not supposed to do that but this one did but that's another story) and the DynaTek Bore Coat has helped that a lot. Sabotloader was doing it to a pitted MK 85 and after chatting with him about it, I decided to try it too. Just a thought

You said you bought it off the Fire. What is the Fire?

Shawn,
more then likely that is exactly what I will do coat it with Dyna Tek.. have done a couple other guns that I bought real cheap that I knew barrel was pitted and it seemed to make barrel better.. one of them still haven't got around to shooting it yet but it shot conical pretty good even though barrel looked like a gravel road so it should still shoot good.

I picked up a MK85 a year or so ago, the original plan was to flip it and put the money towards another gun I wanted. The guy only wanted $75 but when I got there and ran a patch thru it looked about like your patches. I turned it down and left, I was loading up the kids and he came out and gave it to me. I ended up paying him $30 for the bullets he was selling with the gun. After getting home and finally freeing the stuck breech plug I found pitting about 3-4 inch ahead of the breech plug. I hate to sell it with the pitting and haven't had time to shoot it. Will see what happens.

Good luck with yours I hope it works out.

I have bought and sold more ml's on the web than I can count. If ya do it long enough, you're gunna get burned.
Rifles I sell on MM are exactly as described. If someone doesn't like their rifle they buy from me on MM, they can return it, no questions asked.
Ml's that are less than 90% go to GB, but still are accurately described. If you get a bad rep on these sites its hard to do bussiness

Totally agree, I usually give muzzys away that are pitted very bad as long as they shoot decent at least someone gets to use them. I always put exactly how a item is good or bad.
