Looking for opinions on CZ Rifles, specifically the 557 American. I have been looking for a 24 inch barreled 6.5x55 and came across a few on gunbroker. I have heard good thing about their 22's not much on other models.

A range bud has the 7.62x39 carbine and absolutely loves it. Accurate little booger too!
CZ's have been and are very high quality rifles. If you're into breechloaders that is...

have only had the .22 rimfires/.22 magnums but they are very nice guns, really good triggers and if you get lucky they put some pretty nice wood on their guns.. had a full stocked .22 that I sold the stock to a guy in Canada for more money then I paid for the gun because the walnut stock had so much of a burl pattern in it, prettiest factory stock I had ever seen..guy gave me 400.00 for just the stock.

A friend of mine has a cz .17 cal and it will shoot moa or less at 100 yds.
He kills squirrels at distances that I wouldn’t attempt with a 22.

I have Friend also that hunts squirrels with one and makes some long shots

I like busting squirrels in the head when I have time. I have a CZ 452 22lr and a 452 17hmr that will great. They will shoot with anchultzs that cost 3 times as much. The only thing wired about them is their safeties. But some of their new models this year like the 457 are more american style with regular safeties. You absolutely can’t beat their rimfire hunting guns even in gun twice the price accuracy wise. I’m sure their centerfires are great too.

I have a CZ 22lr. Beautiful gun, walnut stock , deep blued. Shoots unbelievable.
Killing squirrels at 50 yards is no problem. I can't imagine there centerfire rifles to be any less quality. I bought a Howa in 6.5X55 spotter barrel, heaviest dang gun I ever owned. Sold it pretty quickly. I'd say go for it, I feel your glad ya did

Good centerfire rifles - generally very good shooters. Owned several, still have a couple CZs.

That said - CZs are generally "rougher" fit and finish than their American Cousins from Remington, Browning, or Winchester.

The wood to metal may be a bit rougher, and the metal may have milling/machining marks under the bluing - but they generally shoot better than average - IMLE.

Decade plus back I got a CZ when they did a run of 17 Remington CF. It is a fur killing machine and yotes and cats go down PDQ. It is very accurate and with those 30 grain 17s works wonders. With the lighter bullets like 25 and 20 cal it takes coons out of trees easy at 250. That particular cartridge is on the fur destructive side on body shots for fox but it makes them very dead, so I kinda stick to head shots on fox. My experience and opinion, others will differ.

I have a 30-06 with full stock - very accurate - only problem I have is safety very stiff

Don't know about the 557 but 550 i had was double set trigger 6.5x55, well built shooter

On the 557 you push the trigger forward to make it a "set trigger". Same as the cz527 which is a very cool little rifle available in 6.5 Grendel.

I have a CZ in 6.5x55, 557 I thought. It was bought on the fly to match with the sons milsurp in the same chambering. I just shot it a few times, 21” or so inch barrel.

I like the 6.5 Swede cartridge, ballistically matched to the Creedmoor.

both are good cartridges , I think you can do same thing with 6.5x55 as the Creedmore. I believe one is short action in creedmore and other is long action
