Took my late uncle in-law's old riverside arms 16 Ga. SxS for a mountain hike yesterday. I was able to locate a tom sounding off on a distant ridge line. After some work behind the bino's and map consultation I was able to hike in and start the hunt for real. Just after 5 PM his gobbles became much closer and I knew he was looking for the lone hen yelping above him. We came up the ridge I was on and at about 20 steps, Pow! one shot with the left barrel rolled him. 2 3/4", 1-1/8th oz #6 Rem Express loads did the trick in the old modified barrels. This bird was of the Merriams brand turkey and was shot in North Central Wa. There is picture proof...hey Lewis, care to post the picture I sent ya?
