When I first got my inline I bought a pack of the 240 grain XTPs prepackaged with Sabots from Traditions. (The Sabots are smooth black in the pack)

I quickly realized that buying bullets and sabots separately was more economical. I just picked up some .452, 250 grain XTP’s And I am wondering if you guys have any input on which Sabbath to try out. Right now I am looking at the Harvesters and MMP’s

Personally in my .50's I like Harvester. In your .452 bullets it will depend on how the bullet/sabot loads for you. If you use a smooth black and things are really hard to run down the barrel, try the crush ribs in black. Myself I use green smooth and crush ribs with .44 cal bullets in my .50's but that's purely personal preference.

MMP makes a good sabot too and maybe is more suited to fine tailoring your bullet/sabot combo because there are so many variations in .50cal.

With muzzleloaders I hate to say "settle" for a load if its working for you because so many times a change in a single component can deliver so much better results and those sabots are no exception. The 250 grain .452 XTPs are shooters and economical, so I'd say get a handful of different sabots and try them all. For sure, one will stand out over the others.

Harvester and MMP are the only two sabot suppliers that I know of currently. Your traditions sabots were one of those two, probably a black colored .430 cal. MMP, if bought from MMP or Harvester, they would be green.

I prefer Harvester sabots,, I would try their smooth black and if they load too tight, try some crush ribs. If you don’t like either of those two, try a MMP standard, HPH, or easy load. Lots of combos to try out. Both companies will send out sample packs, I’m not sure if they charge for that now or not.

Traditions come with MMP sabots but some of the new bullets might be another vendor. If its a 3 petal sabot its the MMP 3P-EZ sabot. Not all 50x44cal sabots are green. Most are but some companies have them dyed other colors. Traditions and Hornady might have at one time.
