Thanks guys! Yep, pretty much limited to head shots but it really doesn't do an more damage than a high velocity .22 longrifle. I actually started on this gun about 10 years ago, did such a horrible job that I set it in a corner of the shop and wished I hadn't "ruined" it. After getting a few rifle builds under my belt I decided I could rasp off all the horrible carving, slim the whole gun down and make a much more appropriate gun out of it. Also allowed me to stop using my .50 cal for squirrels - head shots are the only option with that one for certain! ;)

Beautiful gun. What load are you shooting out of it?

Psjoden, I normally use a thick patch, for some reason this gun liked a thin one. Using an .015 linen patch, .395 swaged ball and 55 grains of fffg Goex. That load generates enough speed in the small .40 cal that it shoots close to point of aim 25-50 yards (as well as I can anyways) and I can ring my 6"x8" steel plate at 100 yards.

The group below is eight shots at 50 yards, from my bench with a sandbag rest.

That’s some great shooting! Definitely minute of squirrel! Thanks for sharing!

Nice squirrel rifle, here is my GM barrelled T/C .40 with a few squirrels.. most accurate muzzleloader Ive owned besides my Bestill .32..dime sized groups at 40 yds if I did my part. Only reason I sold it was it weighed 13#.

Left in the hand means right in the head!
Beautiful rifle.

Reall looking into getting a small cal muzzleloader to do some small game hunting and fun shooting. Been looking at the .32 crockett from traditions. Looking for anyone that has good or bad to say about them, or recommend someting better.

I have no problem taking them out with my .22lr. Would like to give it a shot with a small cal ml

I don't have a .32 sidelock yet, but I do have 2 .32cal inlines. I have not yet seen the Crockett but have looked at them online. For me the hang up is the open sites and my eyes don't agree with each other anymore.:( Might be sacrilege to some to say this, but I have pondered getting one and then drilling and tapping it for a scope.

I too loved to hunt squirrel with a 22lr, found that for me it was much more fun and challenging than using a shotgun. I can tell you that when you roll one off a limb with a little cal Ml you will be hooked. Just something a little different about the sound and a little smoke made it sooo much more fun!:D

2 most fun ways to hunt squirrels muzzleloader/air rifles, hunted with rim fires pistol/rifle for 40 yrs also.
