Even though I have a 455 varmint I am Jonesing for a CZ 457 ProVarmint Suppressor-Ready .22 or a CZ 457 Varmint AT-ONE, 16.5"
Either of those with a suppressor would be great for staying quiet so the chucks couldn't hear me.

I'm not really crazy about the 16.5" barrels. I cant use a suppressors. There is 2 shops that have the 16.5 inch At-One and I plan to go see one of them next Saturday morning (unless I get a service call close to one of them) just to see if I would like it better. Sort of doubt it but still have an open mind. If I did I would order the At-One with a 24" barrel. I'm also curious to see if the At-One Varmint has a similar profile barrel to the MTR. The barrel contour on the MTR was as beefy as I have seen on a production varmint/target style rifle, more than a lot of them, but at 20.5" it was quite well balanced.

I am sure that the barrel profile is the same, except longer. I have been reading a lot about the lengths. I have read that the 24" barrels actually slow the 22LR down a bit. The powder is already burned before the end of the barrel. I have also been reading that the shorter barrels are less hold sensitive. I don't have personal experience with that. I only have the one with the 20.5" barrel.

I never heard that about a 24" barrel. Lot of the Anschutz match rifles have 25 1/2 and 27 1/2 inch barrels. Mostly that is for a longer sight radius for the Peep sites though. Rem 40X was about 27" too. Then again they usually were also set up for Peeps. I can understand the 16.5 being less hold sensitive though, less time to get the bullet out of the barrel. I think the 20.5 is a pretty good compromise.

Well I got to one of the shops that had a 16.5 inch At-one stock. I had a couple concerns when I went to look at it after viewing the Animation on Boyd's web site. One had to do with the forearm and the other those buttons for adjusting the cheek piece and LOP. They actually did not have one out on the shelf so went and got a NIB out for me to look at. I knew right away I was not buying this one, hated the look of that short barrel. To me it don't look right in the stock, but I know it was designed for a suppressor, that extra length would look ok. I actually liked the forend. It was nice and wide and not too rounded. It did not have any flat on the bottom but was just nicely rounded, it looked like it would work great with bi-pod or on regular sand bags. The next concern was the buttons that latch the adjustable cheek piece and LOP. Those buttons were much harder to press in to allow adjustment than I expected, Very nice! There was a hidden surprise that was not at all expected and did not work for me. This was the bottom of the butt stock. It was flat on the bottom from pistol grip to the toe of the Butt pad and that is good, But the part I did not like was how wide that flat was. It had to be between 1/2" and 5/8" at least! I don't recall ever seeing this wide of a flat on a butt stock before. That's too wide to fit my Bald Eagle or Protector rear bags, and the Protector has a flat that is 3 stitches wide. I know some might not know what that is all about but we used these bags when I was shooting benchrest and this stock was double the width of those stocks. The MTR is flat too but about half the width of this Boyd's stock, and the MTR should fit my bags nicely. Now If I were looking for a "Varmint" style stock this would be a top choice. It really is a cool stock, but for what I want/need to use in small bore type matches, it is not fitting for me.

This shop did have an old Winchester 52D that was beautiful, but it is not grooved or drilled and tapped. Its old enough that it just has the blocks on the barrel for mounting a long scope (or the Peep and Globe sites) like the Unertl or Lyman Target spot. They also had an old model 64 Savage/Anschutz that was real nice. These were on consignment and I think they wanted a bit too much for either one, so I passed. :(

On a side note they told me that the 24" version of the At-One is not actually released yet even though there are some on GunBroker. They said it is delayed or they would have had them in stock.

Was it the 16" version? Mine is a 20.5"

Yes the At-One was a 16.5. They were supposed to be set up with the short barrel for suppressor shooters I guess. I think it would look much better with the 20.5" like yours, I might have been more interested if it had it had a 20.5. The other version of the At-One in the catalog is a 24" but according to the shop I was at they are not available yet for some reason.

Not sure what I will get yet, my Bills just started rolling in from my surgery so it will have to wait for a while, but I'm in no hurry.

I have both a CZ and two Annies in .22 LR. The CZ is just a narrow step off shooting equal to the Annies. The Annies have a trigger unlike any other, and are glassed bedded, and that may be the difference. Unbelievable the CZ is being made at the price break they are at.

Thanks for the info. I would really like to get an Model 54 Annie ( I have passed on 2 model 64's in the last couple months) but with a single stage trigger. But those were the older rifles that had single stage. Pretty much everything now has a 2 stage from Anschutz. 2 Stage triggers drive me nuts, Spent too many years shooting Jewel single stage triggers set at 1.5oz I guess. Annies are going for crazy $$ on GB too. Its unreal what some (54's) are selling for.

I did see one of our club members CZ 453 that had a single set trigger. That was a sweet trigger. I have yet to see one of those for sale, guess the buyers like them too much to part with them. He did not want to sell it though, Said "he looked long and hard to find it". Shame they stopped using that trigger. The Shop I did see the CZ MTR still has it. I was there this past Sunday. I think it is over priced at $770.

I have had to take a step back for the rest of this year though. Had a little surgery in June and now all the bills have showed up. Had some that were unexpected , but Ain't that always the way with medical stuff? Makes my head hurt thinking about it. I am really starting to think I will pass on the club competition too. But I am seriously thinking that in the new year I will get a Varmint style CZ in 17HMR. Don't have that caliber yet.

I have a 457 varmint, it is a decent shooter with a few different types of ammo from CCI SV on the low end to Lapua Midas + on the high end. It excels with RWS Target Rifle. I have not messed with the trigger, it was acceptable to me out of the box at a crisp, consistent 2.8 pounds. Other than the pure match rifles it is probably the most accurate rimfire I have ever owned.

Most 22 LR's seem to always have a preference to ammo. I shot CCI Mini Mags for years in mine but RWS SubSonics were a little more accurate. I recently tried some of the Eley High Velocity and my Annie dearly loves them. Shot some groups last weekend that were even better than the other 2 it liked. Problem is I got it at Field and Stream just before Dicks CEO went Anti on us, so now I have to get some shipped to me since no one here carries it.

Once thing I like about the CZ is that you can get a Lija barrel and install it yourself if you don't get the accuracy you want.

I got a case of the RWS on sale from Champions Choice shipped to me for well under $300.00, they had a pretty good sale going on. They carry a lot of good ammo at reasonable prices.

I looked for the Eley on their site and it was the best price I saw. Problem is we can't get it shipped direct to us in NY and it has to be "Transferred" just like ordering a gun, so have to add the FFl cost some charge, thanks to the Moron in Albany.:(
