Doug Schwartz new National Champ and new Record

Congrats Doug, now that you are king of the mountain and mastered this what's next golf??

I believe Bestill did very well also, coming in 1st in four other matches, two 3rd places and a 4th place if I'm not mistaken.

It appears there was some VERY good shooting this year. Congratulations to all!

he shot in another completely different match , he shot against the Slug Bench shooters. He held his own in that match also shooting WOODY in .40 cal with chase patch

Thank you guys . Competition was extremely tuff this year . Bob Wetzel shot one of his best matches .Bob shot a 168 and did not place . Other years that score has won . Bob is getting better and better. He now has a trouble free Bestill Creations .45 . Once he masters shooting off a bench Bob will be tuff to contend with .This year the top three scores First (Myself),Second (Barry Blakewell)and third Jeff Fisk all would have beaten the previous record score for September . Lol that makes it very tuff on a fellow to know he has to shoot a perfect score with more X’s to win !

All three guns had complete different setups . My gun was a .45 1-18 twist Knight 500 with a Bestill Creations module ignition system .I was shooting 78 grains of Blackhorn 209 with a wool wad and a 300 .015 Pittman Accumax bullets

Barry’s gun was a prototype .40 Knight 500 1-16 twist shooting 78.5 grains of Blackhorn 209 with 250 grain .025 Pittman Accumax bullet with a wool wad .

Jeff’s gun was a Bestill Creations .45 Remington 1-16.5 twist shooting 84 grains of Blackhorn 209 using a .060 veggie wad with a 350 grain .021 Pittman Aeromax bullet .

My point is in the in-line match you do not have to have a custom to compete . You need to know your load and your drops . My set up by far was the least Aerodynamic. Accuracy is the key and either wait on conditions or know how to read the wind . This match could easily be won with a Knight Mountaineer , TC Omega or even the new CVA Paramount . Just about any muzzleloader will work if a person spends some time developing a good accurate load .

This year was a great year to shoot . We had a good turnout in the in-line division . Everyone got along great . We encouraged each other, helped each other and just plain did a lot of BSing . I always try my hardest but I also enjoy helping others and want them to shoot their very best . We all in reality are shooting against ourselves . EXCELLENT year to be at Friendship !!!

good job Doug and Shooting, hit nail on head about rifles

Congrats to Jeff in the long Range and Short range Matches . Jeff gave me a good schooling winning both those matches . Jeff also gave the slug guns a good run for their money placing third . Shooting most of the matches in one day . Jeff does not wait on conditions he just likes to shoot . Jeff just deals with the conditions he has .Overall Jeff shot very very well all week . Proud to call Jeff a good friend and competitor .

Congrats to all and Doug, Barry & Jeff.
It was good to see everyone and thanks Doug for helping my son out..
I was there longer and shot less - lol. All good and fun in so many ways..

Could someone please tell me the distances shot and the targets used at each distance? Thanks

Congrats to all. Sounds like the bar is being raised higher at each match.

20190918_054145.jpg From left to right, Six bull 9 , 10 ring 100 yds. , 8 ring sub minute x ring 50 yds, Red target 200 yds, 8 shots count best 5 , minute of angle score rings. Rumor is this match could be shot by shooters in their own class according to skill

Added to these targets are 5 steel chickens at 200 meters and 5 steel pigs at 300 meters

The IH or in-line division can be shot by anyone and with just about any muzzleloader . We shoot shoot a 6 bull target at 50 yards the left upper bull is a practice target . Unlimited practice shots. Then when you are ready you shoot the next 5 targets for score . You have 45 minutes to score 5 shots .

100 yards you have basically the same 6 bull target with bigger rings . Same sequence upper left target is practice then the remaining 5 bulls are for score again 45 minutes to shoot 5 score targets

200 yards is a little different . That is the red single bull target . That target you have no practice shots but... you shoot 8 shots and score your best five . Again the same .45 minute relay to score 5 shots .

You can not post a 200 yard practice target and a 200 yard score target at the same time . But... you can post a 200 yard practice target to get things dialed in then post you 200 yard score target in the very next relay . That is normally how I shoot my 200 yard target .

Then we have our animals . We shoot 5 chickens at 200 meters (220 yards)in prone position unless you are 60 years old or physically unable . Then you may shoot the animals from a bench . This rule I am really torn on and have given my opinion that it may be best that we all shoot the animals in whatever position we feel comfortable with . Myself I see no advantage or disadvantage shooting the animals from prone position or from a bench . The problem is some shooters are to proud not to shoot in prone position because of bad backs ,knees ect... so they choose not to shoot this match because of this prone position rule . I want everyone to shoot and hate to see anyone exclude themselves because of this rule . Time will tell not a big deal either way .

Last but not least we have 5 pigs . The pigs are 300 meters (328 yards) seems like they are big enough I should never miss . Lol easily done ! Both chickens and pigs have a practice target unlimited practice shots .

A person can shoot this match easily in one day if one needed to do so . You can shoot anyone of these distances in any sequence .

Offer still stands . Anyone wanting to attend Friendship I will be more than glad to help that person shoot the match . I will even provide a sighted in gun . Lol that almost bit me in the behind one year !. Now that same fellow attends every year and we have became good friends .
