I know the general consensus is to use the Harvester crush rib sabot ( green or black depending on 44 or 45). So what bullets are you currently using? Right now I am finishing up on the Traditions Smackdown 250's I have, thinking of going to the Hornady FTX 250gr but also looking at the XTP 250's both 45 cal( 452 dia.)

Yes I was aware of the smackdown being a SST but I didn't know the FTX was same bullet, good to know makes my choice on bullet easier .Thank you for the info

I was planning to use the TC cheapshots this year. But I revisited the Speer 270gr Deep Curl yesterday (48 degree temp)with very good results.

I tried these last year with same results. The issue was (so I thought) they grouped great when I was sighting in when temperatures were around 35-40 degrees but fell apart in temps closer to 20-30 degrees.

I plan to shoot these again on Friday when temps should be in the 20's. It might be possible that a fouling shot will be required to get the groups that I had on Tuesday. Never had to do that before but if that is all it takes then I will do it.

Anyway load will be 90gr vol. BH209 and a 44cal 270gr Deep Curl.

250 grain Barnes X-panders in the .50 Accura. 225 grain Barnes XPB in the Optima pistol.

.452 Deep Curl 300 gr.

Or .429 (.44mag) Deep Curl 240 gr. Easily the best performance for cost bullets out there. Penetration, expansion, and holds together.

I took a buck and a doe this past weekend, one at 150 yards, one at 40 yards. Both complete pass-throughs, extensive internal damage, great blood trails, although neither went more than 50 yards.

Personally, I have switched almost everything to one form or another of a Lehigh Defense bullet.

The BC is not as high as the pointy bullets but certainly good enough to perform to 200+ yards.

They have tremendous 'Terminal Velocity'. The way they operate is devastating to the internals if you do your part.

Probably the Gould 346gr HP or the Lehigh 230gr CF. I dont need a high BC bullet but if i needed a little more i would go to the 40cal Lehigh in a sabot. Its not super high BC but a fair amount more than the Barnes 195gr or .451 CFs.

Next year i want to try the 40cal 250gr Fury. Ive always wanted a large 40cal that can be pushed hard.

If you are budget minded like I am. Try the Hornady XTP 300 grain, FYI these come in a mag version that has a thicker jacket. Either will will work fine but performance will differ with powder charge etc. The Speer 300 grain Deep Curl are great performers and accurate. I've taken several deer with these and was very happy with performance. The Hornady bullets seem to be more readily available than the Deep Curl but price on both is very appealing if you shoot alot. MMP black sabots. Outside of these two I like the Hornady tipped bullets, SST, FTX, etc.. The tipped bullets were a bit more accurate for me but the performance of the others are first rate. Just my opinion.
