I still look for the vintage redfield wide fields at shows and flea markets

Those were good Ole Scopes I was 14-15 Years old when i got my Very first Scope/Rifle Combo, it came on a Remington 700 7MM Rem Mag, it was a Redfield, Fixed 4 Power, it had a Post Reticle. I killed My first Bull Elk, and Several Deer with it. I wish i stil had that Setup

I like a scope with accurate tracking, good eye relief and good glass for the money. The market is full of $1000+ scopes with bells and whistles. You can get a SWFA SS that looks bad to the bone for $300-$400 and it will handle a beating better than you can. It will track as well as scopes costing twice as much or more.

I will probably end up with one next year just to look "Cool" at the range.

RIGHT HERE is what i would do if i were in the Market for another Scope!! GM54 Pointed me toward these, Go check out their Reviews, This is DEFINITELY a Scope I would LOVE to Try! I would have bought one of these after my 1,000 Dollar Vortex Viper FAILED, Broke internally. But i ended up getting a SMOKIN Good deal on a Nightforce NXS, I couldn’t pass that up!!

Vortex isn’t even an Option to me anymore, that includes ALL makes/Models of them, I have personally seen FIRST HAND Failures, and Watched Enough BAD on them, I might have been born at night, But it WASN’T Last night! NO WAY would i Spend a 1,000 Bucks AGAIN on another Vortex!! I wouldn’t have another Scope with the Vortex Name on it!!

VORTEX Definition: a mass of whirling fluid or air, especially a whirlpool or whirlwind. Sounds a like a Toilet Flushing, Perfect Place for Vortex

I would get 1 of these SWFA Scopes, like i said above, Go read reviews, and Watch a Few Vids, These things look like the REAL DEAL

I look at the "used glass tables" at gunshows also. Haggle over any Widefield...especially the fixed power. The 4x fixed power Widefields are super tough scopes and the eye box is fairly forgiving. BUT the eye relief is poor. Great scope though for a period correct CF build.

The Widefield fixed power 4x scope was 11.38" long and weighs 12.4 ounces. Its front objective lens measured 30x22mm. The horizontal field of view at 100 yards was 35.95'. The optimum eye relief was 2.88". The exit pupil was a big 5.3x7.4mm, plenty for use in the lowest light. Like any 4x scope, the 4x Widefield was suitable for use on big game rifles chambered for a wide array of calibers from woods cartridges like the .30-30 to long range numbers like the .270 Winchester.

Vortex has this one shot with me. You can get American made and Japanese made scopes for close to that price on sale. The Razor HD LH is made in Japan too but its also pushing $800 at most places. You can get a SWFA SS FFP scope for that kind of cash but it is much heavier.

A scope i wanted to try is the Redfield 3x9x40 TAC-MOA. They are about $250 online. They got cool little target knobs but the knobs are short. Eye relief is very good and under 13oz. Made in Oregon just like the other Revolution scope. Not the Philippines like the Revenge series.

Redfield Revolution scopes are at least as good as Leupold...or were. They are no longer being made. And I have quite a few mounted on various rifles. Maybe Leupold will honor the warranty, should you ever need it.

Optics planet and several other places are still well stocked on Redfield Revolutions. If you like a BDC its similar to the Ultimate Slam BDC. Glass is close to VXII clarity. I think you would have a hard time telling the difference. Specs overall are very similar to Leupolds in the same magnification range and style. Price is a little bit less but you get the same warranty. I hear even the Leupold flip up caps fit them. Those are very nice caps too that thread on.

What’s everybody use for muzzleloader scope? Does anybody use a tactical style scope with Windage and elevation dials?

See thread #40.....and lets not forget lighted reticles (3 color choices) , bdc , and range estimation all relevant to hunting . LARGE F.O.V. just the ticket for running deer and 30mm + tubes !!! Military tough to boot !!! Yep...

I wouldn’t hesitate on the Redfield, I have had REALLY good luck with them over the Years, From the OLD Redfield Widefield, To the New Redfield stuff (Leupold owned) I had a Revolution, and the Cheaper Revenge, Both were AWESOME, Trouble Free Scopes

Compare the TAC-MOA to the Loopie Mark AR MOD1 3x9x40. Very similar scopes but this Loopie is around the same price too. Even cheaper with the 12% off coupon. I like the TAC reticle better but they did make the Mark AR in just a duplex too. It would be a good deal if you can find one for cheap.

I like the looks of that Leupold I don’t have ANY experience with the Newer (White letter) Leupolds? I have read Good, and Bad things?

For the Money, I would REALLY like to Try an SWFA after you telling me about them, and then reading a bunch about them, I might bite down and Buy 1 for my 7MM-08

Its been my experience buy the best you can afford because the low prices scopes will likely give you problems one way or another.
To zero my scopes and take variables out of shooting I use a shooting bench with a lead slide mounted rigidly.

With this setup all the recoil test the scopes ability to stay set. All the low cost scopes have jumped. All the more expensive ones stay set.
Plus the more expensive ones have better focusing capability and clear glass with
much better reticle detail.

When I purchased my CVA Optima V2 LR in December 2018 it had a
KonusPro 3-9x40mm scope mounted with DuraSight DEAD-ON One-Piece Scope Mount. I was expecting to need an upgraded scope from past experience. It wasn't long after the first trip to zero the rifle I found the Konus scope to be more than I expected. The Optima turned to be a keeper and the scope has a lot to do with that. I have priced the Konus scope in the $100 range. I am keeping the Konus scope mounted on the Optima because I am happy with it even though I have a more expensive scope available.

Last time I shoot this setup was a few days ago when I tested it using Black Horn 209 powder with these results from 50 yards.

Ive read of quite a few of those that failed. Reticle shifts mostly. If its etched then the hole lens is turning right? Ive been down the sub $100 scope path a few times. Only the el cheap Simmons 4x fixed held up. Kinda funny too because its a old one made in the Philippines. I spent under $150 on both my Redfields. Made right here in the USA. Shot tons of hard kickers with them. I think i paid about $130ish for the first one.

I use a Nikon Pro Staff 3x9x40 and a Nikon Monarch 4x40 on the other. I've never seen a scope more clear and bright as the Monarch and I brought it used for $25. Guy didn't like the fixed 4X.

Wish i would have grabbed a couple ZA5s when they had close out sales. They blew them out cheaper than Zeiss Conquest on closeouts and they were pretty much just as nice. If you find a deal on a Minox ZA5 GRAB IT!!!

Specs on the 2x10x40 were great for a ML

Minox is making a big splash with American assembled, German-designed scopes featuring Schott Glass and generous eye relief. The ZA-3 series has a 3:1 ratio erector, while the ZA-5 is a 5:1 power range line.

Looking to buy under $500 long range scope with approximately 20X being top magnification for a Paramount. Hoping Black Friday may bring some great deals. Based on past years experience any recommendations for which sellers I should be sure to check, or any particular brands that have been deals the last couple years. Thanks for any suggestions.

Ive got a Weaver V16 on my never had a problem,now one time I dropped the rifle and bent the rear lens sent to weaver for repairs told them my fault I would pay for the repairs,sent me back a new scope no charge you cant beat that,it has been on a 243 and 50.cal muzzy never had an issue.Tracks great never had the zero move.Just A thought .
