That rifle and my 54-120 have specific criteria for scope specs. Good relief and light weight are a must. The NULA is capable at longer ranges (hunting accuracy) but they were never intended to be long range MLs. Both are light weight hunting rigs and excel at it. Dropping a 20oz+ scope in a set of Talley light weights dont seem like the best idea either.

I can be much more flexible on the 45 1-20 or the Super DISC. Not much is gunna get the weight down and i knew it going in. As long as i can keep them well under the pig of a Savage weight im more or less ok with it. I cant shoot past 100 yards at any of our ranges. I can get to maybe 200ish at private property so top shelf glass is not a requirement.

The only range that goes past 100 is over an hour drive and like $500 fee+ $250 a year but it is a very nice range. Got to have a sponsor too which seems somewhat snobbish. Cant justify the cost for so little i would be able to make it out there.

NULA is next up for glass. Move its Redfield to the Super DISC. Sell off the Nikon Omega and the Swift Premier 2x7x40 which is a killer sub $200 scope. The eye relief just blows biscuits. Nice Bak7 Schott glass and FOW but it will bump me once in awhile. https://www.swfa.com/swift-2-7x40-premier-rifle-scope.html?___SID=U

Probably gunna let the Savage 45 go to fund other things and wont need the Swift any longer. So i should have over a grand to use for upgrading 1 for sure and maybe 2. That Loopie VX3i looks like a prime candidate for the NULA. It fits all the criteria although i would prefer a 2x"X"x40 for a wider FOV 2x offers. Razor HD LH 2x10x40 range is better but eats deeper into the funds. Im always on the lowest magnification while walking to the stand/blind after getting caught off guard and losing a nice deer a few year ago.

In your situation I totally understand you not needing all the Bells & Whistles of the SUPER HIGH END Scopes, the Ranges you speak of It makes Good sense to me now why you speak Highly of the 7 to 10 Power type Optics (2-7, 3-10 etc.) I TOTALLY agree that a guy doesn’t need anything more than that at those Ranges. UNLESS a guy was Shooting Competitively at those Distances, Then Bring on the POWER :lewis: There’s nothing like looking at a 100 Yard Target on 22-25 Power Through HIGH END Glass, It SPOILS YA!! This Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X56 is a SUPER NICE Scope NO DOUBT about it, Would i Buy another one? NOPE!! And I wouldn’t have Bought this one if I hadn’t of gotten the SUPER deal i did on it.

For fun shooting at 100 yards, 16x is really nice because you dont need a spotting scope. :p

The 4x16x42 HP was what i really wanted for fun but 12x will be ok after looking through it. Cant find one of them anywhere at the blowout pricing. I can step upto the Tactical for what the few places want for them.

SWFA :) BUT, Had i of known about, and bought an SWFA back when i bought the Vortex Viper, I wouldn’t own this Nightforce, I have to Give owning this Nightforce Credit to the Vortex Falling Apart :p That’s a TRUE Story!! My Buddy got a BRAND New 1,000 Dollar Vortex to Go back under his Glass Cabinet. If i had bought an SWFA i would Almost Gauranteed Stil have it. I can’t find ANYTHING bad about those things? They get RAVE Reviews :lewis:

The SWFA 3x9x42 HD has less "features" but gets rave reviews for glass quality. I will just grab a fixed power when i can no longer resist trying one. At that $600 price point there are others i would rather try than the 3x9x42. In fixed power though you dont see that many close to the price they want. I would love to try the 3x15x42 but again its getting up there in price and its huge.

Anybody have any experience or opinions on Vortex Strike Eagle scopes in particular the 4-24 power model? It's apparently being discontinued and seeing some attractive prices. Thanks!

I am not familiar with that Particular model? Vortex discontinues more Scopes than any other Manufacturer i know of? I get Midway USA Fliers, along with EuroOptics, And Optics Planet By email. I swear EVERY SINGLE Day i get some kind of a BIG “Sale” Price on a Vortex Scope. Today was Midway on a Viper

First thing that comes to mind is the 3.5" relief and over 25oz weight. EuroOptics has them on close out pricing for $299 You can get a DB Tactical FFP for almost that much if you shop around but you give up IR.

IMO some of the scopes i see closed out they just are not making much money on them. They are too close in performance to more expensive models. So at that price you may want to research them further. It could be a bargain or a model that was problematic.

$399 and your choice of rings, $40 card or 10% off. You get better relief and FFP. You give up IR and 4x for low. Otherwise its pretty similar.

Ive seen some REALLY good deals on Monarchs lately. Still a few around with NikoPlex too. Natchez has a M3 2.5x10x50 NikoPlex for $300. Should start seeing deals close to that on M5s soon.

Busted four (4) of those with Encore and Pro Hunters. Loved the scope and glass, they just never held up to a lot of shooting.
Actually I still have one, but its on a Remington 742 my dad owned. His Weaver took a crap on the same rifle, so I replaced it with a Monarch.

Man these TRACT scopes are getting some killer reviews. The 30mm is more than i can manage after selling some stuff but i could manage this and the specs are wicked

Schott HT HD glass

Etched reticle
23oz...yeah its no light weight...20oz for the 40mm
Side focus 15yard and up
3.9-3.8 relief...thats killer it remains nearly constant.

EVERYTHING about this one looks REALLY Good! :lewis:

The 3x9x40 sounds great for the NULA. I use it strictly for hunting with loads around 225gr-230gr@upto 2300fps. Its only 15oz and $400 but no side focus.

The 2x10x42 is almost $700 and 18oz....Man i love that one though. I really really really like a 2x low option.
