I'm curious as to what a good 50 cal elk load would be. I cant shoot blackhorn cause I'm either shooting a plunger style inline or a side lock. Shots average 100 yds plus or minus. I've taken them with smokeless both rifle and hand gun. just looking for the magic bullet .

I shoot a plunger inline (white super 91) this year's elk deer and possibly moose load will be the new no excuses 600 grain .503 on top of an over powder card and 90 grains volume of 777 fffg lit off with an rws cap. This load is shooting 1 inch for me. You don't need anything near that big but if it shoots well more lead and more penetration is good in my mind.

I just received a trial pack of the NE bullets but I haven't shot any yet. 90 gr of 777 3f seems like quite a load for a 600gr bullet. Just curious , have you shot it across a chronograph? I guess it would be like a 50-90 load or a 45-110.

I have not shot it across a crony, but recoil is nowhere near what i was expecting in my gun, felt alot stiffer in my brothers american knight but it doesn't have any butt pad and a narrow stock

How many shots can you get without swabbing ? Or do you swab between every shot? Thanks Mike.

With my white 15-20 i would think before accuracy suffeers but never have to just to load, with the tighter bored knight 5-10.

Since 1980 i've used a .54 PRB and it works fine. Get close and take a double lung shot.

This year i'll be trying an inline and will use a Barnes 250gr T-EZ and 95gr of BH 209. So, whatever is equal to that with the powder you use.

It's not a Rhino. It's an elk.

I just ordered some 460gr no excuse bullets to try in my mk85. Got a NM cow tag for dec. First time chasing an elk so to same I'm excited is an understatement

I picked up a sampler pack a while back. I was a little disappointed with the lube in them. Falling out and melting all over the place. Don't get me wrong, it was hot out. I tried a couple shots and quit. They wouldn't hit the target. Funny, I got them out today and put them in a pan to remove the lube. Then I'll re-lube with my own recipe. I'll try them after hunting season.

shot a few in my mk85 yesterday. Boy they are a breeze to load. I didn't shoot off the bench just resting on a bog pod but I was getting 1.5" at 70yds in between wiping the sweat out of my eyes. I bought some wads yesterday afternoon that I wan to try. But the rifle and loads are showing promise

Old post, but if anyone still looking for info, I have harvested quite a few elk with 290 grain Barnes TEZ or TMZ with thinner sabots and 120 grains 777 or Pyrodex (powder)...

MSalyards, As talon_dfa Above said this is an Old post. But since i see it, I’ll throw my 2 Cents in. GO BULLSHOP 460s on Top of 80-90 Grains of Swiss 2F With, With an 1/8” Lubed Wool Felt Over Powder Wad Between the 2, You will be HARD Pressed to find ANYTHING Better. BIG Lead takes the “Forward Motion” OUT of Critters ;)

Ya, I just noticed the thread was going again , Ha! Funny I was just over in Saco last month scouting antelope and was gonna look up Bullshop. I got side tracked and spaced it out. I'm defiantly gonna try those in my knight bighorn.

You could always make a Trip here to PR and Go shoot with me :lewis: What are we, 45 minutes away?

Ya Lew, one of these days were gonna get together. I use a taxidermist up that way and I gotta get some birds up there before she decides to retire.

300 gr Traditions Smackdown pushed by 82gr (by weight) of BH 209. Crazy accurate. Group is 100 yds. Great performance.
