My hunting pistols. They don't make em any more tho they brought them back in 2018 for a limited run. Based on the Ruger BlackHawk. This gun is listed as having no max black powder load. It will safely shoot as much powder as can be stuffed into it. Some guys have had the cylinders bored deeper to hold more. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot mine with this load, 30grV T7 FFFg under a 220gr conical, as far as i shoot my crossbow. 40-50 yards.

Those are nice there muzzy. My Rems are older ASP Bealls models, smaller grips. A 77 factory finished model and an 80 kit pistol. But Colts are damn nice too. My 2018 Pietta 51 Colt Sherrif model with my 77 ASP Remmie.

My first bp pistol was a brass frame 58 Pietta. Given to me by a friend. I gave it to another friend when i got an old army. I would like another in SS. And a Dragoon. The great thing about pistols is you can fit SO many in a safe without the spouse knowing how many you have

Im going to get a couple new base pins from Belt Mountain
https://beltmountain.com/order-form/ scroll down to see them.
They make a base pin for the ROA that replaces the 3 piece loading lever. I load out of the gun and have a spare cylinder so it is fast swapping out cylinders. Then a little mod to the base pin latch and it can be just a 3-4 second reload. Plus a worn out base pin is expensive to replace on these guns if you try to find the original.

Thannks for the link to these base pins.
There was a time when these weren't available so if the base pin was damaged it pretty much put an Old Army out of business.
A guy in England looked into having a machine shop make some of these but the price was too high so he gave up.

Ruger Old Army's are very popular among black powder shooters in England.

They do some interesting stuff over in the UK. That's the first place i heard about boring the cylinders for uniformity and increased loads. As well as boring them to .50. not sure you can do that with a 1858 or even a Dragoon.

There is a guy on the '58 Remington forum who does beautiful stuff on his '58's. Counter bores the cylinders, then bores the remainder of the cylinders all the same, and also puts a Colt style cylinder bushing on his to control fouling. His forum name is Yolla Bolly Brad, check out his work.

Where do you get your 220gr conicals?

I shoot a lot of Hornady XTP JHP's in my Old Army. Just because I sold all of my 45colts and now have lots of bullets.
I lightly lube them and they fit perfectly into the cylinders. This might be a chain-fire "looking for a place to happen" but I grease over them heavy and they seem to stay seated during recoil.

Have you ever looked at the front of the cylinder after shooting 2,3 or 4 bullets? I use Bore Butter, not much left after firing off the 1st few rounds. I wonder how the grease holds up?

Have you had any of those XTPs come unseated from the powder after shooting a couple? Some one i talked to claimed if he loaded .452s the 3rd or 4th one would be sticking out of the cylinder and sometimes jam up under the loader. I have not had it happen.
