55 here and was hunting all the time. Due to some recent medical problems I may never go again, but there is always hope. I'm glad I was able to travel and hunt most of the things I wanted to before this happened. Do all you can when you can because you never know when it will all go away.

I'll be 70 this July. I have Sarcoidosis on my lungs, so I get winded pretty easily. So I don't climb the mountains like I used to. Plus probably going to need knee replacemeSarcoidosisnt someday and trying to avoid a rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder. So, I try to find places where the terrain isn't so bad. As long as I take my time I'm ok. Naturally if I lost some weight it would also help, but fighting the battle of the bulge is tough. It's amazing you can lose 10 lbs, but one bad meal and wham you put on at least 5 lbs. 😳
I seem to have some of the same problems as you do. Bad knees are the worst. I someday intend to buy an ATV. I can get a permit to get a deer out of the woods with one on public land. Sometimes I think there are as many hunters on public land as there are deer but it's all I have. I know what you mean about the weight. I don't have to eat food to gain weight. I just need to look at it. I hope you don't mind me asking but what is Sarcoidosis?

How old are you, and do you still hunt?

I called DOC White last night at 7 P.M. Mountain Time to speak with him regarding my Optima V2 pistol's laminated Javelina stocks.

His lovely wife answered the phone, only to inform me that he was STILL OUT TURKEY HUNTING!!!!!

For his second turkey of the spring!!!

The nerve of the guy!! And at 84 years old, no less!!

I am 66, and it looks like I will be 67 by the time I can return to the woods to ethically hunt.

I just hope that I can still be out hunting when I am that age.
Hope he’s not after his second turkey in Utah, we only get one... not that I’d ever turn him in. He is an absolute hero to me, if he wants to shoot a thousand of them, I’d love to be arrested with him. What a story that would make LOL....

53 on July 5th, and, yes I do!

Im 64. I shoot and hunt at every opportunity. Got a nice 9 inch turkey a month or so ago. I like to dilute my hunting with fishing for brook trout during the summer. Just lost a fishing pal who was 82. He fished with us last year so that was great. I pray the LORD will let me hunt until my last day. Then maybe pass sitting at the base of a tree watching the stream go by.
That would be the way to exit, for sure. Either that or hooked into the Brown Trout of a lifetime...

55 and dont get to hunt nearly enough. Life always has something else planned for me. It looks like CatamountRob and I are youngsters here so far. I think we need more young and female members here. My neighbor is in his 30s and an avid hunter but has 2 little kids and 2 jobs. He says he just doesnt have time to ML when he can hunt all the seasons w/o out one around here(CWD zones).
I got you by a couple of years MM. you would have been the one making me push pennies when I was a sophomore.😂😂😂

64+ and still climbing higher in the trees than most younger guys. I will keep deer hunting as long as the GOOD LORD allows. Only 2 last season as I only could hunt at home but still have enough meat to last till this upcoming season. Keep after it as long as you are able. Got jerky going right now.
We are moving first week in July, (we will be technically homeless for five days) The boss has been crock potting all our meat for the last week, deer, elk, and beef, cause she don’t want to move it all. Don’t know what we’ll eat at our new place, won’t be meat till September...

Tell you what michiganmuzzy. You find a baby sitter for his kids and come up to the thumb for muzzle loader season some Saturday when we do deer drives. Both of you. We have lots of deer and places to hunt.
Hey where’s my invite??? Lol. I can’t afford to go that far. Love to chase whitetail someday though..

That explains the chuckles when I finally talked to him yesterday afternoon (5-21).

We had a lousy phone connection with all kinds of echoes on my end. When I asked him if he had gotten his second turkey he was laughing and I think saying something about a camera. It made no sense at the time, but now does.

For an 84 year old guy he has a lot of irons in the fire.

He has built 7 m-l's this year that are on his website.

1. A brass-mounted Bridger Hawken .58 caliber percussion rifle
2. A Denver Hawken Perch Belly .45 caliber percussion rifle
3. A Gemmer-Sharps .45 breech m-l, musket cap percussion rifle
4. A 12 bore Hudson Valley flint fowler
5. A Gentleman's 20 bore flint fowler
6. A fullstock, flint, .50 caliber, brass-mounted, Hawken rifle
7. A .50 caliber, half stock, Leman percussion plains rifle

He repaired MichiganMuzzy's White Whitetail rifle

He practises medicine a couple days a week.

He is going to fabricate the stocks for my Optima V2 pistol.

He hunts whenever he can.

He's been married for 50 plus years.

And, who knows what else?

Hey, the year isn't even half over.

I will be 80 on my next B-day and still at it. I have an elk tag in my pocket and hoping to fill it. the ram in my avatar was taken when I was 76. It took a lot to get in shape for that hunt! I plan to keep going as long as the legs and eyes keep working.

I will be 72 in August. All long as I have the love of the hunt I will continue to hunt. As noted in other threads, I have slowed down somewhat but with age comes wonderful patience and hence more opportunities especially deer hunting. Just finished my 12th day of turkey hunting with a very good friend - he is 85. Day 8 gave me a nice gobbler so hoping to have have this friend fill his tag. I have a second tag in NH so will continue to hunt. Great Thread

I am 63 and we have a new grandbaby that will likely take some time, but right now she's just a lump with pretty eyes. I'm busy with food lots and I'm planning to break a trail to a new spot in the cedar swamp. One day at a time.

I hope that your health returns so that once more you may visit nature in her cathedral. If not, you always have the memories. Good luck on your recovery. May GOD bless you, and yours.
