The bear population is pretty high in the area, but the DNR issues a limited number of permits that never seem to change. Folks all around the lake here are having issues. Lake is 8,500 acres itself. As long as they don't try getting in the house they'll be fine.

There are many more bears around, but getting a permit is a decade wait applying, even for some with many "points".

I have quite a few photos of those rascals here. After the first encounter and a pile of smashed up bird feeders, the electric fence has kept them out of the feeders.
The wife and I watched one come in to the feeders about an hour before dusk. He reared right up on his hind legs thinking he was getting one of the peanut butter feeders.
He touched one of those wires and he was out of there like a rocket! We laughed our selves into tears.
