FYI..............

Just in case anyone might be purchasing a firearm that will require a 4473, you might want to consider your purchase long prior to when you might need or want it.

Due to the many things going on in the country, firearm sales have went through the roof and in doing so, its backed up the Federal approvals.

Here in MI, if you have a CPL, you used to be able to just walk into a sports shop and the CPL gave you immediate approval. Of course if you were purchasing a handgun, you were still required to register it after the purchase.

Then back on March 3rd, the Feds took that option away from MI, all because the Michigan State Police were being what the Feds called, 'Sloppy with record keeping'. So in MI, since March 3rd, you could no long use your CPL and were required to pass the Federal background test. Some suggest that this nit-wit governor we have may have suggested the MSP be a little sloppy????

I needed something to replace an air rifle for vermin, so I decided on a Ruger 10/22 and Vortex scope. Well I found out that I was about 34th on the list at the sports shop that had been called in. Seems that the Feds, instead of checking all information from a single store, decided that they'd only do up to 10 at a single time, checking for approval. I checked with the store yesterday and they received 10 approvals, no more. So I'm on my 9th day of waiting for approval even with a CPL. The store tells me that the Feds have been approving just 10 a week so it may be awhile.

What may be happening in your state may vary, but with all the firearms being sold, I've heard the increase was over 500%, make sure you purchase well prior to your need.

You make a good point. The feds removed Michigan CPL holders from NICS exemption largely because the State police were issuing CPLs to marijuana users, even though under state law the use was legal. We have the same situation in Arizona, and there are many other states with the same conflict between state and federal law. I have the feeling that Michigan is a test case for the Feds. If they did it there they may be thinking of doing it everywhere.

What a JOKE to have to go through!! I use to have problems getting through the NICS System, I would get Delayed EVERYTIME i purchased a Gun, Even with a CPL in Wa State. I ended up going through the System and obtaining a UPIN # (unique personal identification number) This was a BLESSING, I have only been Delayed 1 time in well over 10 years with this UPIN #, and that was just a couple years ago when they went to the Computerized System, instead of Calling in. The Dealer had went through the Computer System on this Purchase, He Explained that i had been Delayed, I was like??? I asked him if he could Call them and actually talk to someone like they use to do? He said yes, But that the Computer System was designed to Speed things up, and That “Hold times” on the Phone could be RIDICULOUS at times. Anyway, The Dealer agreed to Call me in even though i had just been Delayed through the Computer, Within 5 minutes i was Walking out the Door with my Rifle

In okla. I have been delayed at every single purchase. This has gone on with every purchase. I have a common name ... John Carter. I have been told that is the reason. I have been delayed at a gun show and my wife was approved in minutes at the same show. Having a concelled cary permit does not help

I worked in a gun shop for about 5 years and found most people with very common names got delayed. You can call the ATF and they will send a form (forgot number) you fill out and send it back, will fix the problem.

Called a UPIN Number (Unique Personal Identification Number) I have one. I describe it in post #3

Didn't have any problem whatsoever here in Virginia yesterday. Was pretty close to instantaneous.

I just read this post and felt the need to share my experience today. So today I’m driving long from Flint to Burton and I’m going to Walmart to pick up groceries.

Next thing I know car that was behind me Pulled up beside me and while passing me the passenger in the rear seat roll down the window and pointed a hand gun at me. It was a pretty black one With what appeared to be a reflex scope.

Me being the idiot that I am rather than get scared I got pissed. So I pulled up on the driver side of this vehicle at which point the driver had the pistol and was pointing it at me.

I proceeded to say what the f are you stupid? do you want to die? my next words were you’re going to jail.

At the moment I called dispatch the vehicle proceeded to accelerate down the road. I pursued while on the phone with dispatch giving plate number description of the vehicle make model etc. Direction of travel all that fun stuff once an adequate description of the vehicle and the driver was given to dispatch I broke off Chase.

seeing how in this country it’s so easy for people who should never own firearms to have firearms all these regulations seem to keep the firearms out of the hands of responsible gun owners. it makes me sick the geniuses like this had a gun and mUch less have pointed it at me while in a vehicle that was plated.

Really sorry to hear that you had to endure this, Gabpan. Hopefully you will hear soon that they have them in custody and need for you to swear out a statement. Heard someone on television say something that is truly germane... "when you play stupid games, you win stupid rewards." Hoping these BOYS soon reap their rewards.

Thank you gentleman. Hopefully these young men learned the seriousness of brandishing a weapon.

Had they done it to someone else no telling what might of happened. Having a weapon pointed is a terrifying experience that instantly makes you feel as though your life is in danger. And most self-defense training says if you have the shot take it.

I'd hate to think how their parents would feel if anything happened.
