The Ruger 10/22 came home today along with a Vortex Crossfire II, 4-12x44.

Cleaned the barrel out really good, took off the scope rail and put some blue on the screw threads and tightened it up. Mounted the Vortex and headed out to the bench.
It took 35 rounds to break in the barrel, but she was shooting inside a dime at 40yds when I stopped playing. It'll take a bit to get used to the trigger.
Nice little semi-22 and should work well for vermin.

Your gonna have some fun! Don’t think there is a more fun gun out there than a good old Ruger 10/22. My 10/22 Carbine my dad bought when he was 10, gave it to me for my 10th birthday. My son is 9 and already knows what’s getting handed down to him in a few months on his birthday. 10,000’s of thousands of rounds through that gun and still is extremely accurate. Couldn’t even guess the number of critters it has taken. We have raccoons killing our chicks the past week so the Ruger with a green kill light has taken out two of them including a huge male this morning.

A chip that has been screwing around the wife's "she shed" fell victim this morning at about 35yds or so ;)

I might have to check the trigger improvements out. HUGE difference compared to 11oz on my muzz. :)

Check out coolguyguns.com for everything to make that little Ruger shoot it's best. I built my Ruger 10/22 using Tony Kidd's parts from this website. Parts aren't cheap but I sold all the original parts off the gun (except for the receiver) on ebay and made more money than I paid for the gun. I replaced the trigger group, barrel, bolt and stock. I have the most fun out of my 10/22 than any gun I own because it is so darn accurate!

I second Bird Dog on the Kidd parts for 10/22s. I’m running some Kidd parts in my 10/22, and they’re worth the extra $$. Kidd barrel, EDM extractor, main spring & guide rod/bolt handle eliminated all of my cycling issues and really tightened up groups with a range of ammo. Can’t speak specifically to Tony Kidd’s triggers since I went with a plain Volquartsen and am fully satisfied with its 2 lb. 6 oz. bottom end, but the quality of the Kidd parts I did buy is such that I wouldn’t be worried if you told me Kidd is moving into manufacturing artificial heart valves.

Starting to get used to this little rifle ;) Its quite accurate even with the heavy trigger. Not so enthused about the Vortex on it, but it'll work.

It’s hard to get enthused with a Vortex of ANY Model, when you are use to Shooting a Nightforce NXS :) Being on a .22, it should be fine tho, Be gentle with it, like a Newborn, and Shoot .22 Shorts ONLY, And If it stil breaks, Just know that you are covered with their VIP Warranty 😋

That Vortex I had on my Knight Mountaineer RUINED me on Vortex, I won’t even consider them anymore. And It wasn’t like Mine was a Cheap Model, it was their Viper PST GEN 2, Which was an 800 to 1,000 Dollar Scope, it lasted a Couple of Shooting Sessions and Fell Apart internally?

Volquartsen trigger and a .920 barrel(almost any brand) are my recommends for neccessary upgrades. But there are so many aftermarket upgrades for that 10/22 your head will spin.

Wow the Vortex must be lousy! I always replace the steel buffer pin with a urethane pin. That ends much of the noise and some of the recoil. Currently have a Nikon on my 10/22.

This little rifle, short of MAYBE the trigger is waxing everything I shoot at ;) No need to go any further except for maybe some trigger work, which really isn't necessary. Its only something for vermin out the back door. As it is its working pretty darn good for a cheap rifle. Had needed something "special", I'd have purchased something else.
It does amaze me how much one could do if they wanted to the 10/22.

The Vortex isn't the greatest scope, but for $140 what can one expect? It'll do, but its worthless on 12X. I keep it at 6X and its ok.

If i had just one thing i could do to the 10/22 it would be replacing the buffer pin. I relaced the steel one with a urethane pin, about 400 shots on it and still looks like new. Less felt recoil and a lot quieter. And i think i got 2 for $8. YellowJacket brand. Takes about 2 minutes to replace. No disassembly required. Lift the action up out of the stock, use the new pin to push out the steel.pin, put it back into the stock.my pellet guns are louder than my 10/22 now, i think, just from that one change. Everyone should own a 10/22 imo.

After watching a few videos of disassembly and reassembly, I finally decided enough was enough of a 7.5# trigger.
Worked on it very lightly as to not go beyond any point of no return. Reassembled it and I had taken it from 7.5# down to only 6#, but it was a good start. I also realized that taking the whole trigger apart was a complete waste of time. Just two pins to get the hammer out. Worked it a second time then checked it and I had it down to 4#. At that point I knew it wouldn't take much, so being very careful removed just slightly more off the hammer notch. Reassembled it and checked the pull, which was running right at 3#. Good enough :)
Now I have noticed that it is slightly gritty. I may get some jewelry polish and polish everything up.
3# is SOOOOOOOO much better than 7.5#

Good Job! Nothing like taking the Bull by the Horns and Fixing something like this yourself :lewis: Flitz Metal Polish is what i use for the finish Polish on this kind of Stuff, it works REALLY well for these Tasks (I have done several Triggers with it, TC’s and Rem 700s) I add a tiny amount of Flitz to the Notch, Then I break a Cotton Tip off of a Q Tip and Discard the Tip, I use the Broke end and push it firmly in the Notch, it will Take shape of the Notch, Then Simply back n Forth tediously until the Surface is like a Mirror, This Method works really well, and is simple to do

I won’t buy another Vortex I doubt, since the sight-in is such a *****. Move 1”
And it moves 6”

I’ve noticed at 12X on mine it’s super hard to get “into” the sight pic

A quick and easy mod to the 10-22 is the auto bolt release. Disassemble the trigger group, puul the bolt stop. Use a dremel to cut the V shaped hole into a more heart shape. Reassemble and done.
More a convenience than function.
