Well, I’ve been shooting for 30+ years and have never dealt with this: shooting a year old Savage 110 in 350 Legend, and had a massive over pressure cartridge. Had shot a few prior with zero issues, and then this one was louder and sharper kick. Had to use a hammer to lift the bolt, and use a rod to punch out the case (at least what remained) from the chamber. This were “factory” loads (not a big name factory, but still, sold over the counter/online, so “factory load”). No explanation, yet, as to the cause. That’s under investigation. All that for my actual question: thoughts on possible damage to gun? As I said, plenty of experience shooting, no experience nearly blowing guns up. Ammo owner has said they’ll cover cost of any repairs, but do I want to hang onto this gun if it’s just possibly an extractor or ejector that needs fixed, (while obviously getting a full replacement if it’s major damage.) Trying to get it into a gunsmith for a full going over. Just unsure if there are possible issues down the road that might show up due to this. Any thoughts are welcome!0324ED34-4B65-4B1A-8C67-FDEDE005F49E.jpeg50ABA4AF-21A3-4D3E-88EE-C0AAE8C26C4B.jpeg33C58E24-5C27-4094-AA2E-F644C59AB2C9.jpeg04C90901-A404-49F6-94B3-C476C45D8164.jpeg

I saw a friend blow a 350 legend Ruger apart. That cartridge headspaces off of the mouth of the cartridge and some factory cartridges have been shorter than a SAMI spec which can cause case head separation. Not saying that is what is going on with your rifle but you should check out the specs in a reload guide and compare to your factory ammo. If the cartridge case is too short when the firing pin strikes it pushes the casing forward as it ignites the primer, wala case head separation.

First glad you are not hurt and hopefully the rifle isn't either. Keep us posted on everything. Not to get off subject but was it accurate before this problem? Hope it all works out OK for you.

Accurate enough for our use (1.5-2 moa with the right ammo - tried 8-10 different factory loads), but lots of people seem to have even better.
Overall, have not been overly impressed with it. It has issues with the bolt not stripping the next cartridge from the magazine (just slides right over top). Somewhat flimsy feel to the stock and bolt. There weren’t many bolt rifle options when I bought it a year ago.

Thanks for the updates. I have not heard of many .350 Legends that actually shoot better.

Either here on the thread or via pm could you please give me the name of the ammo manufacturer?

I know stuff happens but I'd rather avoid that brand if possible.

So this actually just got sorted out recently. Talking to ammo manufacturer, he had another incident (that had actually happened just a few days prior) that was exact same thing and involved a Savage. Guns and remaining ammo were inspected (by outside parties), and it was found to be more so an issue with how the chambers were cut on the Savage (No other reported issues with any other brand of firearm). They were the minimum SAAMI spec, and these monolith bullets were having to be squeezed/shaved as they were shot. Ammo manufacturer was going to make some dedicated “Savage-ready” ammo to test.
As far as damage, I just replaced extractor and extractor spring, and back to shooting, no issue.

The 350 legend head spaces on the case mouth and some factory ammo was put out that the SAMI spec was not met ie shorter cases. Probably was a QC issue but I saw a guy wreck a Ruger rifle as the case head separated causing damage to the bolt and blew the stock out and mag destroyed. He was uninjured. To clear this up he was shooting reloads but had mentioned the cases not being uniform so really he should not have loaded the shorter cases. Just a fyi.
