A friend of mine is in Arizona visiting his mother. He text me that has acquired a Pietta stainless steel NMA 1858 with a spare cylinder. Has 4 lbs of Pyrodex P and balls, caps, capper, nipple wrench, flask, and gun rug that she wants to sell. The date code is BI which is 1991. From the pictures i saw it looked pretty good. Told him i could not go over $225.00 on it figuring he would turn me down. Welllllll looks like i will get it delivered when he returns to Texas after the 15th of this month. So did i do good or not? I could get new at Cabelas with spare cylinder for close to $500. Guess i have too wait and see. Always wanted a stainless pistol.

:bump::bump:

Well guys i picked her up last night. Met my buddy and his wife, with my wife, in Belton at Schoepf's Bar-B-Que. It was nice getting caught up after almost 2 years. Got home after about 10pm and didnt feel like messy with cleaning it up so left it for today. Made sure all was here. Action was extremely tight, both cylinders were crammed full of grease. Suddenly a light went on, no one fills stainless steel cylinders with grease to prevent rust. Took a metal probe and checked the grease depth, hell there was a ball there. Both cylinders were loaded and have been for many many years. I removed the nipples and checked the charges. I found 2 bores with no powder, just ball and grease. James knows nothing about C&B revolvers and the old man just accepted the revolver as payment for broken windows. I carefully drove out the charges and balls. Heated some hot water and added some dawn soap. Let soak for a couple of hours. Damn they cleaned up with no signs of corrosion. No wear on ratchet, and not on bolt recess. So now i stripped the whole revolver down, it was loaded with grease, and cleaned with hot water and dawn dish soap. After reassembly it works perfectly. Looking down barrel all bores line up on both cylinders and also on spare a blue cylinder i have. I cannot tell if this gun has ever been shot or not. Now it is my turn. I think i did good.

I would say you were fortunate to not have some erosion. I am surprised

Yes you are correct. I dont know how long it was loaded but James said the his ole man has been wagging it around for almost 20 years. I doubt it was loaded that long but then again i am no expert on these matters. I just trust the people i talk to. Now i need to deburr it and work on the hammer trigger some. Open up an 11 degree forcing cone, and try out some of Omnivores 180 grn HBSWCHP bullets he made for me. i have newer RB from Hornady, the ones that came with the pistol have been beat together so much they dont even look round anymore. But first i will shoot it as is for a comparison. Too damp and cool right now for me.

Great deal on that pistol, where can I get some of those bullets?

These were done for me by a friend of mine on THE 58 FORUM, Omnivore. I sent him a 100 45cal 140 grn balls and 100 50cal 180 grn balls and he ran them thru his swage die set. Lyle is getting on up in age and his health is not all that great so i doubt i will be able to get more. Would be nice if i had a lathe so as to make my own dies. But that is not in the cards right now
