Been looking for lead I could use to cast my own bullets. Since cast iron pipe is no longer used there is no use for plumbers lead and none of the supply houses have it. The 1/4" lead wire listed on some of the big tackle supply places are NLA. Any suggestions as to where to look for pure lead, not wheel weights?

Go to local scrap yard..
Roofers are another source..
I even found 120# of sheet lead on Craigslist locally..
One never knows..

X2^^^^^. Or BAC as Lewis suggested. Local hospitals doing any type of remodeling may have some sheet lead from old imaging suites.

I get mine from local scrap dealers, but I also do pistol bullets,
But price is still good here in ohio

Thanks for the tip. Never gave ebay a thought. Brain fart I guess.

I can do $30.00 for a little over 5 lbs for 30 bucks.
Nit Wit

I purchased a lot of lead from scrap yards over the years but you would be surprised by the number of people you may all ready know that have some laying around, once they know your a caster they quite often keep there eyes open for you and are willing to give you what they have.

Some of the lead I've found at scrap yards say pure lead on the ingot . Also came across bars of lead/tin ,rolls of lead/ tin solder that no one wants to use on water pipes anymore, Pure tin bars . One time I came across over 600 lbs of linotype that is high in tin content and Very desirable for high velocity centerfire rifles. Of course I've bought hundreds of pounds of wheel weights that I shoot in my revolvers. One of my friends works in the plumbing and heating business and gives me any lead he finds.

I have a bunch of wheel weights, both ingots and raw weights. To hard for ML big game thought. Won't open up and do any damage. Jut a stright through hole. I have found some lead from a fellow member on this forum. Would rather do business with member here than the big companies but thanks much for the info. Only one scrap yard open around here any more. Scrappers got the country side cleaned up years ago when prices were higher than heck. No business now.
