I decided to up my measuring capabilities, My Old Stainless Steel dial calipers work great for Quick stuff, But sometimes it’s nice to know EXACTLY what’s What? That’s where this Mititoyo Micrometer comes in. This is Model #193-211, 0-1” .0001 (Ten thousandths of an inch) I didn’t want an electric Digital, I wanted a Mechanical display digital counter Readout, Along with Full Manual readout (including Vernier Scale to get you to the 10th) This little Mititoyo Micrometer is a NICE Tool. I looked at Starrett as well, But ended up going with Mititoyo :lewis:

I also bought a Cast iron Micrometer Stand, These are SLICK! it’s difficult to Hold the Micrometer while Trying to measure certain things, This Stand Frees up your Hands, makes measuring SIMPLE :lewis:

And a Set of Small Hole Gauges, The large one says 1/2 inch (.500) but it goes to .511, SLICK little tool for Checking Bore Diameters up to .50 Cal :lewis:

Nice choice on the mitutoyo. Mine are craftsman. I have the starrett bore gauge set though from 3/8”’through 3” I think. There’s like 8 of them. If I’m going for precision, I always use a mic over calipers.

The only thing about bore gauging is making sure you don’t have one side in a groove. My eyes don’t allow me to know that anymore. Pin gauges are still the best for that. IMO

I agree Stacey, I played around with these Bore gauges quite a bit and came up with a method that works good for me, But it is easy to get in the Grooves.

I really like this little Micrometer :lewis: Mititoyo gets RAVE reviews, Seemed like a Toss up between Mititoyo and Starrett? Both are high Quality tools, and Expensive. But I’m good at Spending money, DARN GOOD at it :D

@sdporter

I thought about you here, and a took a Picture of a Lathe that my Friend & Gunsmith up the Rd just Bought, Its a Dayton Model No. 53UH14

This is the picture i took of his, the pic turned out Awful, it was an odd angle i was standing, it makes the Machine look lopsided 🤪 Anyway, it’s a nice Lathe, He had to have a Different Electrical Service setup just to Run it, there is an Electrical Box just out of view to the left, I don’t anything about this kind of stuff?

That looks like a nice lathe! Get him making bullet moulds now😁

He is a good guy, He has done a lot of odds & ends for me with my Muzzleloaders over the last 3 or 4 years, When i run across something I’m not comfortable with, i run up to Steve’s and say “Hey there Buddy!” :D It works out good in the End, i have fell Trees around his House, Cut firewood for him, In trade for his Gunsmithing :lewis:

You can see my Truck in that picture above of my Friend’s Lathe Just outside the Window, You can see the Canopy of my Truck anyway. I had to Fall a LARGE Fir tree for him last year exactly the way my Truck is parked, In other words the Tree would have Crushed my Truck the way it sits in the picture above. That is Right along side his house TIGHT, Big BEAUTIFUL Home. In short, His Roof wasn’t leaking when i left :lewis: Falling Timber is all i have ever done, I have worked in some STUPID TIGHT Places over the years, From the country to Cities, and everything in between.
