Can anyone recommend a good source to find good cast bullets online?

Received my goulds today. They look great. Thanks for the recommendations. Lewis, the bases look very sharp and evenly cast. The TC maxi hunters I got this week from midway, do not... no surprise there. I don’t have much faith in the maxis but you never know until you try

I did melt off the bore butter and put on some doctored up Lyman bullet lube instead. I used some allox, orange magic, lanolin, avocado oil (only oil I had sitting around to thin it out). Put it in the freezer to see how hard it would set up when cold. Seems to be very nice ply able consistency. Melts when I touch it with my fingers. Experimental at best but it only cost about $10 for everything and was fun to tinker with

Good deal my friend! Them Lyman Goulds Shoot! That is an Awesome Little Bullet :lewis:

Store bought Maxi’s are a Crap Shoot, I have seen them look HORRIBLE right from the Box. In fact @idahoron has an AMAZING Picture of one he got in a Store Bought Box, it Goes to show QC, how much Care goes in to them

Here it is, from Idahoron

When Hornady stopped making the 410 gr 50 cal I went on the search for a replacement. I bought one box of the maxi hunter. I opened it and saw this bullet.

I melted the rest down and never even shot one. Their Quality control has got to be crap if they let that bullet through. I use nothing but my own paper patched bullets. My bullets are +- 1 grain. Most bullet makers don't even weigh their bullets for quality control. Even the No Excuse bullets are not weighed for QC. If a person wants the best bullets available he has to make them him self.”

Looking forward to your Results :lewis:

1-20” twist is what Doc White uses in his 45cal rifles.
.
I'm having two rifles built by Doc White and Carl Walker (working under the GRRW Collectors Association banner). One is my bullet rifle with a 1-14 twist rate while the other will be the round ball gun with a twist rate of 1-77.

Doc thinks in .40 caliber and loaded as he says (correctly), these two rifles projectables will fly pretty straight for a long distance, time will tell .... :2cool::snipe: These rifles will have the old school look like seen below which is what I asked for.

In my 45’s with a 1-20” twist I got great accuracy with loads from 60-70 gr of 777-3F and 70gr of Swiss 2F.

Thanks, good to know for a starting point

As i said, The Lyman Gould FLAT OUT Shoots! And is a VERY Proven Big Game Killing Bullet. This is one of my all time FAVORITE .45 Cal Bullets. I just wish it dropped from the Mold at .452-.453 instead of .459, It is a 45-70 Cartridge Gun Bullet (They shoot Groove Diameter), We are Forcing them through .449 to .452 Bullet Sizers (whichever we need per bore?) so we can Shoot them in our Muzzleloaders, since we need Bore Diameter Bullets for our ML’s, Sizing this much is TOUGH on the Bullet, But It works, it’s just not ideal by any means

This was a Ranged 107 Yards, my favorite place to shoot til it was Gated off. This was the First time i had ever Shot the Lyman Gould, These were sent to me by @edmehlig above. My 1:30 Twist Green Mountain .45 Barrel, in a TC Hawken Stock

Bstorric I also have a 45 caliber in one and 24 twist I'm making Lee real bullets for mine 200 grain but haven't shot any of them yet they don't have to be sized supposedly good bullets is what I've heard and read

I’ll keep those in mind if I start looking around for some new Bullets. I ordered 100 from bullshop, so long as they shoot decent I won’t probably have to buy more for a little while. Also still have a bunch of store bought bullets to shoot through (Powerbelts, sabots, etc). Before I got the barrel relined, I was having trouble finding Bullets that the gun liked. I think a lot of it had to do with the pitting and lack of actual rifling (hence why I sent it out) but now I have a bunch of mass produced stuff that I’ll play around with and then maybe see if anyone on here wants them if they don’t shoot out of my gun

Got my relined .45 TC hawken barrel back today. Came back with a 1:26 TR. thought it was going to be 1:24 but doesn’t make that much difference to me. Took it to the range with my Lyman goulds from bullshop today. The barrel and bullet combo shot great. Didn’t play around with developing a load or anything. Just shot it at 50 to sight in and then on to 100. I am very satisfied. Thanks @Idaholewis for the recommendation. The hole to the left is three shots. The one low was me, I pulled the shot. I was shooting 50gn 777 and then ran out of premeasured loads and started using my 60gn ones. The groups seemed to open up a little. Or it could’ve been me45C6A2DF-3F3D-447A-86D0-75402A8CCDC7.jpeg

Here is the hundred yard group. Like I said I ran out of 50gn loads and didn’t feel like messing around with measuring at the range. The 60gn loads I shot at 100yd didn’t seem to shoot as well but I also forgot my sandbags and had to Jerry rig up a rest. Not very stable. I’m very happy with the results. Now it’s time to dial it in and see how accurate I can get it
