My girlfriend has the R10 Ravin. She loves that bow and I love that it’s safe, easy to operate,
and very accurate. It has a number of features that make it safer than most crossbows.
First, it automatically moves the safety to SAFE after the shot. Second, the crank system
ratchet lets you stop at any point and rest without any possibility of slipping.
Third, it cannot be dry fired. When the arrow is loaded an audible click tells you
it is ready to go.
It‘s so accurate of the bench I only shoot one arrow per bull until I reach 40 yards and
even then it’s very easy to damage the bolts. Great bow!
The only downside is it will require service sooner than later and to do it yourself
you need a bow press. I’m planning on doing the service and don’t think it will be difficult.

I watched a video of a guy shooting small groups at 100 yds with a R10. So, it is accurate. I might be tempted to take longer shots than my normal 40yds. I hate busy reticles and i'm thinking of use the Jack Plate and a scope with just one crosshair. Kind of pricey, so i'll have to think about that. It is nice though.

Longer shots with a crossbow sounds like a good idea, but a 400fps crossbow still isn’t a 2000fps rifle or even a 1500fps muzzleloader. My argument to guys I see on other boards claiming their “effective range” is 70 or 80 yards is that a lot can happen between the time the bolt leaves the bow and impact. To me, it comes down to a lack of respect for your quarry. I can shoot good groups on stationary targets all day at 50 or 60 yards with my Excalibur but won’t even consider a shot on game over 35 to 40 yards.

I made no mention of taking a 70-80 yd shot on game. Longer for me would be 50 yds. An elk has a big kill zone.

I realize that and wasn’t referring to you. I specifically said that I see it on other boards. I’m on a “bow hunting” board, and many of the members are extremely over confident with their abilities and aren’t that knowledgable about game.

I have Hawke crossbow scope that has a turret, that once dialed to the yardage is pretty accurate out to 50 yards. That distance is all that I need for whitetail deer.
