I have a Colorado deer hunt this year and need a non-sabot bullet. Have never shot anything but a sabot bullet so starting form scratch. Recommendations?

I’m going down the same path for my old faithful Knight Disc rifle and am trying No Excuses and Thor full bore bullets. Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to really work on this project due to work.

Looking at the No-Excuses also. Just sent them and email trying to decide what size bullet will fir the Encore best.

I went through the same process a few years ago. I settled on the Thor primarily because it is actually made by Barnes. I was familiar with the Barnes bullets through the Federal shotgun slugs. Down range performance on an animal is second to none.
Some examples of Barnes bullets recovered from deer. Most are never seen again as they mostly pass through the animal.

The bullet at bottom right is the only Thor I ever recovered.

There are are bullets that perform similar.

Hornady Great Plains should be a pretty good choice for deer. I also seem to have pretty good accuracy with Hornady 350 gr FPB's. They seem to shoot well from my 1-28'' twist guns.

Has the Thor quality control gotten any better with the new owners? I haven't tried them in years but the size I received was all over the place.. The sizing pack does no good if what you get are not what you ordered.

I haven't used them for about 6 years now but don't recall any sizing issues. Terry was the contact back then and I thought Barnes made them for him. I never did fully understand the business arrangement that they had.

If i'm not mistaken Muzzle-Loaders owns Thor now. Barnes made them but Terry sized them. Terry is out of the picture now.

That is the exact reason I bought them .503” or .504” & Sized them myself.

Totally agree, just unfortunate they didn’t come consistently sized. Several friends borrowed my sizing die.

The fact that they're so hard makes it even worse. It's not like a lead conical. A little off with a Thor and it's not going down.

I would buy a lifetime supply of Great Plains bullets from Hornady if they were available in .45 caliber.
