I got my BIG .50 Cal on Steel at 1,200 Yards this morning, 3 Consecutive Hits on my 20” Plate :lewis:

The Video

My Rifle, Rice Barrel Co. 32” inch 1:24 Twist .50 Cal Barrel, In a TC Hawken Stock, Lee Shaver Long Range Soule Tang Sight, and Lee Shaver front sight (non adjustable) With Lee Shaver fine BPCR inserts

Ranged with my Leica 1600B Rangefinder, and Google Earth Shot in Yards, This is a TRUE 1,200 YARDS

A look from my Rifle, That is a VERY small Target with Open/Peep Sights for this Kind of Distance, My Entire Target (White Backing) is ONLY 3 Ft By 3Ft Square. My Steel Plate is 20 inch Square, 1/2” AR500 Plate, Weight is 60 Pounds

My 3 Consecutive Hits, Shots Number 3 & 4 are Very visible, 5th and Final Shot Just Cuts the Right side of the Plate

5th and final Shot up Close, Cuts the edge of the plate, exits the Cardboard Backing

What I could find of my Bullets, Even at 1,200 Yards They stil hit with SERIOUS authority!! They are Splattered to Pieces

Great shooting mate, surprised they flatten at that range. What do you think would be the effective hunting range of them? (ballistically not accuracy wise)

The Bullet is capable of Killing Game WAY WAY Out there, It really comes down to the Shooter’s ability, Weather conditions, and what the Animal is doing?

Example, The problem with BIG lead at the Velocities i get with Real Blackpowder at really long range like the above 1,200 Yards is the “Time of Flight, Trajectory Rainbow” I have no doubt these bullets yesterday would have Killed an Elk at this 1,200 Yards if Hit Behind the Front Shoulder (Lung Shot) The problem is how long it takes the Bullet to get there. This BIG Bullet is in the Air a LONG time, A feeding animal could literally Walk away from it.

I agree with the ethical side of the argument, I think it's no different with centrefires once you're out at that range. I've always wondered in those long range "hunting" videos how many misses and woundings go into every video you actually see of a successful hunt.

Great job on that lewis, PM sometime on getting some nasa lube, I have trye'd and failed to much. Thanks,

Wc2, Did you see my “Twist” on Bullshop‘s NASA? It’s really easy to make, After i Tweak it, This is By far the Best Bullet Lube i have ever used, No doubt my Favorite Bullet Lube, i have proven this stuff OVER & OVER :lewis:

This is my Twist on Bullshop‘s NASA. This is to 1 Full Pound of NASA Lube, Just the way it comes from Bullshop. In a Double Boiler setup, or a Make shift one. Melt the 1 pound of NASA Lube, Then ad 2 of the little Bottles of Stihl HP Ultra Synthetic 2 Stroke Engine Oil (These are the 2.6 FL OZ Bottles, For making 1 Gallon of Mixed Fuel) Stir the Stihl HP Ultra in REALLY Good, Set aside and let cool.

UPDATE (This is optional, But what i use as well) After emptying the Stihl HP Ultra Bottles, I Fill 1 of them back up full with 100% Peanut Oil and ad this to the Lube as well, Stir Together well, Set aside and let cool. I would put this stuff up against ANYTHING out there, I don’t believe you will find a better Lube than this

This is how my NASA Lube arrives from Bullshop

This is the Stihl HP Ultra Full Synthetic 2 Stroke Oil i use. This stuff works INCREDIBLE at Combatting Bore Leading. It will STOP, or at Least GREATLY Reduce Leading. In my Polished Bores i get ZERO Leading

This is the Brand of Peanut Oil that i use, I also lube/soak my 1/8“ Wool Felt OP Wads with this Same stuff, Peanut Oil is an AWESOME Hydrator, It REALLY Helps to Soften Fouling even further. Peanut Oil has a HIGH Flash Point. I have tried other High Flash point Oils such as avocado, But i MUCH prefer this Peanut Oil

When i say Double Boiler setup, or Make shift one, this is what i use. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT That you use a Double Boiler Setup, You can EASILY Scorch the Lube over Direct Heat. I simply place Jar Ringers inside an Old Designated Pot, Ad water til it just covers the Ringers

Now ad your Lube Pan, It will sit on the Jar Ringer Lids. I use Medium heat, maybe a little more, Just under a Boil of the Water

Many have said it and I’m just going to repeat it. That’s very very good shooting irregardless of the firearm used but in particular with a side lock and peep sights. Continue to prove the disbelievers wrong and enjoy your success. Thanks for sharing with those of us that are trying to follow. We would all be much worse off if you weren’t here to mentor us. Thanks again.

Thank you for the kind words my Friend, I have met some Good folks on here, you are definitely one of them.

If you ever get a Hunt down this way like you spoke of before, I would enjoy meeting you, We could load up and go Burn some Powder Together :lewis:

How much Peanut oil per lb of lube do you use and you use two bottles of Still oil per lb also right?

Yes, 2 bottles of the Stihl HP Ultra, and then use 1 of the Empty Stihl HP Ultra Bottles and Fill it up with Peanut oil, then ad it to the Lube as well :lewis:

There’s nothing that I would like better that get to shake your hand and have a chance to fling some lead with you. There won’t be an Elk hunt for me this year due to the uncertainty with the border I didn’t even put in for the draw. Now that doesn’t mean I absolutely won’t be prowling around in Idaho and Wyoming this fall cause ya never know they may open up the border sooner than I think.
Keep up the good shooting and stay safe.

Bullshop NASA is Quite a bit Thicker than i like the way it comes. It is stil Plenty Thick Even after my “modification” above to it. It holds good in the Grooves, and Shoots LIGHTS OUT Good :lewis:

I’ve been using the modified SPG lube for gg bullets. I’m very happy with it, this winter the batch I used was lightened further with jojoba oil I had layin around.
