The hard part is not the simple math BUT you have to include the "rainbow" distance too. I could copy the video and use one of my better pieces of software to play it back. I think about 4sec though is a pretty good estimate.
If we knew the velocity and BC, piece of cake.

Velocity is about 1,350 Fps, I Chronographed 90 Grains a few Day’s Prior to this Shoot and was getting 1,330 Fps, I upped the Charge to 95 Grains for this 1,200 Yard Shoot but didn’t Chronograph that load.

As for the Rainbow Trajectory :) It took 180 MOA to get on Target, at 1,200 Yards 1 MOA is 12 inches. Spin drift is fairly substantial at this Distance as well, Notice my Miss impact is about 5-6 Feet Left? (These Rice Barrels are Left Hand Twist) And i say that i added more Wind? I meant Spin Drift, as it was Calm, i had no Wind to deal with.

That is amazing. Was that 180 MOA total or 180 above your 100 yard setting? That was just one hell of a shot.
This last week we have had 3 days with wind between 50 and 70 miles an hour.

Ron, it was 180 MOA above my 100 Yard Zero. This time of year can be Windy up here as well, But nowhere near what you guy’s get down there, But it’s pretty common to get Wind in the Spring here. On these Long Range Shoots i try and be setup to Shoot at Daylight as that is usually the Calmest time.

Have you got your new bullet (Mold) yet?

Actually I just got it today. After his last message to me I was thinking about another 2 weeks at the least. It looks pretty good. I ordered the Iron 44-390P. It looks like brass but a magnet sticks to it. Its also a little rougher than I expected it to be. I am hoping to be able to cast up some bullets on Saturday.

I can't help but wonder how far above the line of sight the bullet raises? I bet it is really up there.
Several years ago there was an article in Shooting Digest or maybe Shooting Times (can't remember which) about the long range shooting at Creedmore in the early years. The best I can remember was that it was about 4 sec. flight time and the trajectory was about 75ft. high and the bullet was coming in on target at around a 30º angle. The barrel maker Pope was holding off on Saturday to get the odds of him winning raised on Sunday. Seems like it said this was a big deal then with the specators being near 1200. It was a good read. I'll try to find my copy.

From your picture that SURE looks like a Brass Mold to me? I wonder if he made a Mistake somehow? There is enough Steel hardware in the Mold that i bet it would grab a Magnet, I would make darn sure Ron. If he made a Mistake? I would get it Right, or at least the Difference refunded to you (Brass is Cheaper than Iron)

I bought 1 of Accurates Brass Molds just to try it, It is my 1st and ONLY Brass Mold, and it will DEFINITELY be my Last one!! Bullets stick in it, i have to beat my Handle pivot to Death to get the Bullets to Release (That has gotten some better, But stil a Joke) The Mold Galls easy, Just like Aluminum if not Worse. In Short, I HATE it!! And regret that I didn’t get it in Steel (Iron)

I LOVE His Iron Molds, But despise his Aluminum & Brass

To say I'm impressed is an understatement. I feel safe in saying the average Joe can't do that with a scoped suppository rifle. Well done sir. The education is much appreciated.

Very nice, congrats.
That bullet looks familiar! Didn’t do that well for me, maybe it’s your barrel from Jason?
You’ll need to try 2000 as they did in 1868! Looks like you might have the territory to try.
Good luck and keep shooting!

Thank you Rick, I can’t speak highly enough of these Rice Barrels, I would put my 3 Rice Barrels up against ANYTHING out there, They FLAT OUT Shoot :lewis:

That’s good to hear... I picked one up ( .45 caliber 1:18”) from an eBay auction for about a hundred bucks off of the new price. It’s unfired but there are a few marks on the barrel and it lacks the under rib and thimbles. I have that stuff laying around here so a few hours with files, sandpaper and browning solution, a bit of range time and it should be ready to go for deer season this fall. I’m not sure if I’ll be using a renegade stock or Hawken, I may have a White mountain carbine stock laying around here somewhere too... decisions decisions...891AEBB7-6B1C-4FF7-8832-8919F7EC9513.jpeg0419741D-0836-4742-9D69-38FC66075DF3.jpeg34F83994-EC65-49D3-8E48-54DD1A44B4CE.jpeg

Would you please show me some close up images of the percussion snail drum breech plug from the right, left, and top angles? I don't think I have ever seen a good image of Rice's CNC percussion snail drum breech plug.

Thanks,
Bruce

Sure thing... I’ll get a picture of the breech from the inside later when I get a minute. By all accounts this should be a fast breech with as close to a straight flame path as can be had short of an inline or mule ear...BA92B9A2-2AC4-4F9F-8C25-EF465688F476.jpeg6E8BF846-E413-4C42-8BF5-D9EB4B10690B.jpeg3868A026-A241-4FD5-B2A8-BB266CE99CC0.jpeg55C6CA17-4C44-4051-86D6-68481E64A479.jpeg

My new .45 Cal Rice Barrel, and a new personal best Shoot. I fell in love with my 1-24 Twist .50 Cal Rice Barrel, And of course my 1:20 Twist Rice as well. In short, My Rice Barrels are my TOP DOGS :lewis: I ended up ordering a .45 Cal in 1:17 Twist to go with them, A dedicated “Long Ranger“ The Barrel Showed up Friday Morning, I installed a Lee Shaver adjustable front sight, And fitted the Barrel in the same TC Hawken Stock that the 1:24 Twist .50 Cal Rice Rests in. I group shot it Saturday Morning with 2 of Favorite Long Range .45 Cal Bullets, Both BACO Ellipticals (Paper Patch, and Grease Groove) Both bullets Shot AWESOME, about 3/4 to 1” at 100 Yards. I loaded up Monday morning and headed for 1,200 Yards,

The Video

After getting everything setup the Fog Rolled in and had me at a “Stand Stil“ I waited for nearly 2 Hours, it finally lifted and turned out to be a really nice Day

The Bullet i chose for this outing was my BACO .453 Elliptical, Lubed with “Modified“ Bullshop’s NASA Lube

Barrel stil in the White, Has a total of 8 Shots fired through it at this Point (From Sighting in at 100 Yards Saturday Morning) It’s 9th Shot was at 1,200 Yards :lewis:

After the Shoot i came home and Cleaned the Barrel Good, Removed the Front Sight, Under Rib & Thimbles For Engraving & Hot Blueing, I just now got back with it from Engraving, Pictures aren’t the Best here and do it NO Justice, Engraving turned out AMAZING :lewis: The Barrel goes for Hot Blueing in the Morning

With it‘s 1:17 Twist This is a TRUE “HOTROD Hawken“ :) I decided to Name it “Eleanor” for the Shelby GT500 from the Movie “Gone in 60 Seconds”

And lastly, Here are the 2 Bullets from Both Shots in the Video above, The bullet on the left is the Shot that hit Left, it was Damaged badly on the underside from a Rock, and the Bullet on the Right is the one that Hit the Steel Plate, If anyone thinks that these BIG Lead Bullets have NOTHING left on them at 1,200 Yards, You better Re-think that :) BIG Lead continues to be BAD @SS Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay Out there, Smashed Flat as a Razor, That is the Bullet Base you see, even the Sprue Cut :)

Who does your engraving ? Sometimes those patches can be blown out with just a primer or a touch of powder under the nipple if you have no other way to get it out.
