Please excuse my ignorance, I know nothing about smokeless muzzleloaders. I have a remington 700 AAC-SD in .308 I do not use. I was looking at Hankins pre-fit barrels. Is a conversion as simple as installing and head spacing the barrel? What else is required? Do the modules work with the stock bolt or does the bolt have to be modified? Thanks for the help. I may not be searching with the right terminology, but I didn't find the answers I was looking for.

The module will fit your 308 bolt face,, just tell Hankins when you order what size you want ,I think he has 45-70 and Magnum also, it's a very simple build, take your 308 barrel off screw the prefit barrel on ,line up your lug, headspace on a module, you should be able to open your boat and slip the module right behind the extractor just like you would a headspace gauge, with just a little bit of feel on the bolt when you close the bolt slowly, Jeff Hankins has a video on it also and all he does is in the video is just screw the barrel in with the module in the bolt until it makes snug contact he takes a wrench then on the barrel nut and just smacks it good and it's ready to go it really is that simple, doesn't take much either to test fire it take a look at your primer as long as your primer is flat and it should be everything is going to be fine almost all of the modules the first time I shoot them are very snug they fit much better after one firing. You need a wrench for the barrel nut, and a barrel vice, by the way I have a lot of full shank and barrel nut pre-fit builds the most accurate barrel I've shot so far has been a prefit barrel out shot any of the full shank heavier barrels that I've had and do have today,, good luck.

Other than the aesthetics of the barrel nut it is the easiest cheapest way to build a smokeless rifle,, if someone wanting a smokeless rifle wants to pay for a shoulder build and a full shank and the machining work that's fine, it's what so unique to me about a 45 Cal smokeless setup the rifle doesn't need blueprinted and all the fancy machining work done on a custom centerfire build put the rifle together start shooting everyone I've done so far has shot half inch and less pretty much right out of the gate, I realize by the time you get everything you've spent probably over $1,000 anyway on a barrel nut barrel but when you compare that to the price of a full custom well there's really no comparison anyone looking to spend almost $1,000 on a Paramount or a knight for one of the other semi custom guns available in America is nuts for not also taking a look at finding a Remington 700 donor action and putting them a smokeless rifle together which oh by the way will shoot all the subs and Black Horn all day long too.

Remage builds should not use the upper end loads like the 1.2x5" long shank builds. Other than that its fine. So if you are wanting to shoot a 275gr@3000fps you better get something else. Remage barrels only have about the same size OD shank as a small shank Savage.
