About 1/4 second after impact.

All quiet.

The bullet ended it's flight sitting there on the horse by the jug. It did hit the last jug, but didn't do much damage at all; the jug still holds water i.e. it is intact. The first two jugs were wasted. As before, the powder charge was 80g Blackhorn, and the range was 25 yard. A video is available for viewing.

I don't believe the 300 xtp comes in .430

It actually does. I have taken a few deer with them with excellent results.

The 430 300gr is my go to hunting bullet. I has shot, and still do shoot, many other bullets. I have always used the XTP in the field and it always works so I never changed. I know other bullets will also work fine. I guess it is just one less variable to worry about when I hunt.

I have also done well with xtp bullets. I wasn't aware of the.430 xtp 300 grn. I have some ordered. I wonder what BC is.

It is advertised as .245

What did the recovered bullet weigh?

I recovered a .451 250 gr. XTP out of dirt at 100 yards. It had been shot out of a Remington 700 ML with 90 grains of Triple 7. The recovered weight of the 250 gr. bullet was 241 grains. I was impressed.

Just interested in how much of your recovered 300 gr XTP weighs.

I have probably harvested more deer with a 300 grn XTP than any other bullet, and they always performed well for me. (usually in something from 80-100 grn volume charge and ranges of 20 ft to maybe 80 yards where I normally hunt) If it wasn't for forums, and guys like Ron who constantly real world test and report, I would no doubt still be shooting them, but last decade or so I switch every year and try something new. I REALLY should just keep up with my cast bullets now, and just strive for the optimal hardness...but every time I see some new report, I just have to try "those" and a few hundred bullets stockpiled of yet another.. "want to try those" and away I go... :huh?:

Hal

Hornady website says .452 on the 300gr XTP reg.
My 300 XTP Mags are also .452 and my 44-cal XTP 300 regs are .430

Squeeze I hear you! I have a mixed bag collect whatsit and whosit bullets. Truthfully they should mostly all be okay for hunting. Well except for powerbelts. However I never bought any of those...and will probably stay away from them.

I guess I get a little OCD when it comes to my hunting bullet. I always go with the XTP because that is what has worked. But...I did use a Hornady with the rubbery point (I can not remember the name of those bullets. This one was made for the 500 S&W) last year on my six pointer. I was using my 54 MK-85 and didn't have any XTP's in 50 caliber. So other than many deer with the XTP and one with the rubbery pointed Hornady, I have never shot a deer with any other ML bullet.

I have been experimenting with some No Excuses conicals this year. I might have to give one of those a try next year.

I just checked the Hornady website. The bullet I mention above is a FTX. It is a 300 gr bullet. They also make a 350 gr XTP. I would like to try that one some time.
